Chapter 7 - Dawn Over Manhattan

The first rays of golden sunlight broke over the Manhattan skyline, casting a warm, brilliant glow across the glass towers and waking the city from its restless slumber. Standing on the private wrap-around balcony of Daniel’s penthouse suite, I looked out over the sprawling metropolis that had nearly become a graveyard for us both. A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped gently around my waist from behind, pulling me back against a warm, solid chest. Daniel rested his chin on my shoulder, sighing softly as the tension of the past weeks finally drained away. "Your father tried to contact your encrypted comms three times this morning," Daniel said quietly, his voice laced with protective possessiveness. "He knows the operation failed. He knows you chose me."
I leaned back against him, resting my hands over his arms. "Let him know. I’m done being a pawn in Vincent Marchetti’s game of chess. I choose my own path now." Daniel turned me around in his arms, his dark eyes searching my face with an intensity that melted my remaining defenses. The danger hadn't vanished entirely—the underworld never truly slept, and rival families would always test their boundaries—but we had forged an unbreakable alliance born of survival, intellect, and undeniable passion. "Then don't ever leave me, Emily," Daniel murmured, his voice fierce and tender all at once. "Rule this city by my side."
I smiled, leaning up on my tiptoes to press my lips gently against his. "Try getting rid of me, Daniel. Event planning was never my true calling anyway." As our lips met in the warm morning light, the shadows of the past evaporated, leaving behind a hard-won future built on power, respect, and a love fierce enough to conquer the criminal empire of New York. The war was over, but our reign had just begun.
