Chapter 4 - The Collapse of the EmpireBy 12:00 PM that afternoon, the corporate and financial sectors of the Pacific Northwest detonated into an unprecedented crisis.

Shares of Vance International Logistics collapsed completely as federal receivers and IRS criminal auditors seized the firm's primary headquarters on 4th Avenue.

The news headlines across every major network read:

"LOGISTICS MAGNATE ETHAN VANCE ARRESTED IN $70M MOB MONEY LAUNDERING & ATTEMPTED MURDER SCHEME"

"MISTRESS VANESSA RUSSO CHARGED AS ACCESSORY IN FEDERAL RICO CONSPIRACY"

"HEROIC WIFE TESSA VANCE EXPOSES INTERNATIONAL MOB RING AFTER SURVIVING ALLEY BEATING"

I sat behind the wide mahogany desk on the top floor of the newly renamed Vance-Colton Logistics Tower in downtown Seattle.

I wore an immaculate cream tailored suit. My dark hair was styled in an elegant, severe knot, my posture royal, my hazel eyes holding an unshakeable clarity as I signed the primary corporate restructuring papers alongside federal receivers.

Bridget Colton set a hot cup of tea on my desk, along with a thick financial ledger.

"The seventy-million-dollar Moretti laundering accounts have been fully seized by the Department of Justice, Tessa," Bridget reported with deep, professional respect. "Because you were the primary whistleblower and owner of fifty percent of the pre-marital corporate shares, the court has officially appointed you as the sole Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the restructured logistics corporation."

"And Victor Moretti?" I asked quietly, taking a slow sip of tea.

"Moretti was arrested at his private compound in Chicago two hours ago," Bridget answered flatly. "Your USB drive provided the exact cryptographic keys needed to unlock his entire international network. He will spend the rest of his life in a federal maximum-security facility."

A soft knock sounded at the heavy glass double doors of my private office.

Detective Cole Voss stepped inside, carrying a dark leather folder, his face relaxed into a warm, respectful smile.

"Mrs. Vance," Detective Voss said smoothly. "I just came from the federal holding facility downtown. Ethan’s legal team submitted a formal plea request five minutes ago."

I sat back in my chair, looking at the window overlooking the city skyline, then turned my hazel eyes to meet his.

"What is he asking for, Detective?" I asked softly.

"He's begging for a five-minute meeting with you before he's transferred to the federal penitentiary in Oregon," Voss replied. "He says he needs to tell you something about the company's secondary offshore accounts."

I looked down at the silver-framed photograph resting on my desk—a picture of my late father, who had taught me corporate logistics when I was twenty years old.

"Tell his attorney the answer is no," I said softly. "Ethan has nothing left to say that I care to hear."
