Chapter 2 - The Ambush at the PenthouseAt 8:00 AM the following morning, the sun rose over the glittering glass towers of downtown Seattle, casting cold, golden reflections across the harbor.

Inside the sprawling top-floor penthouse at The Grand Regency, Ethan Vance sat at a wide marble dining table wearing a silk robe, sipping black coffee while reviewing a real estate brochure for an oceanfront villa in Miami.
Sitting beside him in a white satin robe was Vanessa, her manicured fingers twirling a diamond necklace Ethan had bought her three days ago using my frozen personal funds.
"The hospital called my office twenty minutes ago, Ethan," Vanessa said smoothly, taking a bite of fresh fruit. "The chief psychiatrist said Tessa is still refusing to speak to the attending staff. They're preparing the involuntary commitment papers for the state facility today."
Ethan offered a dark, comfortable laugh, leaning back in his leather chair. "I told you, Vanessa. People always believe the successful, calm husband over an emotional, hysterical wife. By next week, I'll have sole power of attorney over her family's trust, and Vance Logistics will be completely clear of the Moretti audit."
"And the police?" Vanessa asked, pouring more coffee. "That Detective Voss seemed rather quiet when he took our statements."
"Voss is a simple municipal cop," Ethan scoffed dismissively. "He sees a messy affair, a crying wife in an alley, and two wealthy people with clean records. He won't push it."
BOOM!
The heavy mahogany double doors of the penthouse didn't just open—they were blown inward by a hydraulic breaching charge, sending sharp wooden splinters and dust flying across the marble foyer.
"FEDERAL AGENTS! DON'T MOVE!" a thunderous voice bellowed through the corridor.
Vanessa shrieked in frantic, hysterical horror, dropping her crystal coffee cup as it shattered against the floorboards.
Ethan jumped out of his chair, his face draining of every drop of color as twenty fully armed FBI tactical operators and Seattle Police officers in black Kevlar swept into the dining room, their sidearms trained directly on his chest.
Stepping through the ruined doorway, flanked by Detective Cole Voss and Bridget Colton, was me.
I didn't wear a hospital gown or carry a blanket.
I wore an immaculate midnight-blue tailored suit, my broken wrist bound in a sleek black medical brace, my dark hair swept back in a severe, royal knot, my hazel eyes holding Ethan with an absolute, freezing disdain that dropped the room's temperature below zero.
Ethan stumbled backward against the marble table, his jaw sagging open in total, speech-bound horror as he stared at the wife he had left for dead in a freezing alley four days ago.

"Tessa...?! What... what is the meaning of this?!" Ethan stammered, his voice cracking into raspy, pathetic squeaks. "You're... you're supposed to be in the psychiatric ward!"
"I checked out three hours ago, Ethan," I revealed. My deep voice carried an unyielding, velvet power that echoed off the high ceiling. "And I brought the Federal Bureau of Investigation to help me pack your bags."
