Chapter 3 - The Execution of the WarrantsSpecial Agent Miller from the FBI Financial Crimes Task Force stepped forward, holding a thick leather folder bound by red federal seals.

"Ethan Vance and Vanessa Russo," Agent Miller announced cleanly, his baritone cold as mountain ice. "You are under arrest pursuant to an emergency federal warrant issued by the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington."
Vanessa thrashed wildly, screaming curses as two female federal agents caught her arms, forcing her hands behind her back, locking heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.
CLICK. CLICK.
"Ethan! Do something!" Vanessa shrieking hysterically, tears cutting messy tracks through her makeup. "Tell them it's a mistake! Tell them she's crazy!"
"Shut up, Vanessa!" Ethan barked, his own hands shaking violently as two broad-shouldered FBI operators grabbed his arms, forcing him flat face-down onto the marble dining table.
CLICK. CLICK.
Heavy steel restraints locked around Ethan’s wrists behind his back.
"Tessa... please!" Ethan wept, his face pressed against the cold marble, tears cutting clean tracks through the dust on his cheek. "Listen to me! Moretti forced me to do it! He threatened to kill me if I didn't use your signature for those shipping manifests! I did it to protect us!"
I took three slow, deliberate steps forward, stopping two inches from his face, looking down at his groveling frame with a cold, absolute clarity that cut deeper than any blade.
"You didn't do it to protect us, Ethan," I spoke softly, my voice carrying cleanly across the silent room. "You did it because you were greedy, arrogant, and foolish enough to think that a woman who built her own career would let you drag her into a federal prison."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, setting a certified legal notice flat onto the marble table directly beside Ethan's face.
"Mr. Vance," Bridget announced calmly, "as of seven o'clock this morning, a judge granted an emergency ex-parte freezing order over all corporate accounts, real estate holdings, and liquid assets associated with Vance Logistics. You are broke, unemployed, and facing thirty years in federal custody."
Detective Voss leaned down near Ethan’s ear, his voice flat as granite. "And as for the video recording your mistress took of you beating your wife in that alley... we recovered the deleted cloud backup from her phone an hour ago. The domestic assault and attempted murder charges carry a mandatory secondary twenty-year sentence."

Ethan let out a low, agonizing groan of pure, unadulterated horror as federal marshals hoisted him off the table, dragging him and Vanessa flat across the marble foyer toward the ruined double doors in chains.
I turned around, stepping out onto the sunlit balcony overlooking Seattle Harbor, breathing in the cold, crisp morning air, feeling the suffocating weight that had rested on my chest for four years completely, beautifully vanish into the wind.
