Chapter 5: The Return to the Lion's Den

Daniel was sitting behind his mahogany desk, looking disheveled and frantic, barking orders into his speakerphone while frantically trying to locate Vanessa. When the heavy oak doors swung open and I walked in, looking calm, composed, and completely unafraid, Daniel dropped his phone, rising slowly from his chair as if he were seeing a ghost. "Evelyn... how... how did you get out of the guest room?" he stammered, his charming mask slipping to reveal a cornered, violent predator. Before he could lunge around the desk, I calmly placed the unedited flash drive right in the center of his blotter, alongside formal legal notice of emergency asset freezing orders I had filed through my family’s attorney an hour earlier.

"The game is over, Daniel," I stated, my voice echoing off the glass walls of the office. "Your offshore accounts are flagged, your shell companies are exposed, and your master plan to use me as a federal scapegoat has just imploded." Panic seized his features; he lunged forward to grab the flash drive, but the office doors swung open behind me, revealing not security guards, but two federal agents from the Department of Justice accompanied by my brother Marcus, carrying federal search warrants for corporate embezzlement and domestic violence. Daniel’s knees buckled as the heavy steel handcuffs were snapped onto his wrists, his multibillion-dollar empire evaporating into thin air in a matter of seconds. But as the agents hauled him away toward the private elevators, I knew there was still one loose end left to tie up before I could claim true freedom.
