Chapter 5 - The Confrontation on the MarbleNathan’s mind shattered completely. Driven by a chaotic mix of jealousy, humiliation, and desperate rage, he shoved past two waiters, stumbling out onto the central marble floorboards toward the stage.

"STOP IT!" Nathan screamed, his voice cracking into a raw, unhinged screech that echoed off the high gilded ceilings. "THIS IS A FARCE! SHE IS A GOLD-DIGGER! SIX WEEKS AGO SHE WAS BROKE IN A GROCERY STORE!"

The music stopped instantly.

The five hundred high-society guests gasped in horror, stepping back as Nathan stood in the center of the floorboards, his hair disheveled, his tuxedo rumpled, pointing a trembling, sweat-slicked finger at me.

"Look at her!" Nathan bellowed frantically, tears of wild panic streaming down his face. "She married a mafia boss for his money! She used him to destroy my business! She’s nothing without the Moretti name!"

Adrian didn't raise his voice. He didn't pull a weapon.

He slowly unbuttoned his tuxedo jacket, stepping down from the stage steps, walking cleanly across the marble floorboards toward Nathan. His leather shoes clicked with measured, terrifying precision against the stone.

The two Moretti enforcers stepped forward, but Adrian raised one broad hand, stopping them.

"Let him speak, Marco," Adrian commanded quietly, his baritone thick with an apocalyptic, cold weight that dropped the ballroom's temperature below freezing.

Adrian stopped three feet from Nathan. The sheer physical presence of the Don made Nathan’s knees buckle, forcing him to take two stumbling steps backward.

"You speak of money, Nathan," Adrian spoke softly, every word dropped into the silent room like a heavy slab of granite. "You think money is what makes a person important. You stood in a store and offered paper to a woman who possessed more grace, honor, and courage in her little finger than your entire pathetic family ever owned."

Adrian reached into his tuxedo jacket, pulling out a sleek leather folder bound by red judicial seals, handing it directly to the lead Federal Marshal who stood among the security detail.

"Nathan Vance," the Federal Marshal announced flatly, stepping forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "You are under arrest for High Federal Wire Fraud, Corporate Embezzlement, and Tax Evasion."

Nathan’s face turned an ugly, paper-white shade of green. "NO! WAIT! CLAIRE! PLEASE!" he wept, falling flat onto his knees right on the marble floorboards before my shoes. "FORGIVE ME! I WAS CRAZY! TELL HIM TO STOP! I LOVE YOU, CLAIRE!"

I walked down from the stage steps, stopping directly beside Adrian, looking down at the man groveling in chains before us.

"You told me I was in no position to raise a baby, Nathan," I spoke softly, my clear, velvet voice carrying cleanly over the silent ballroom. "Now... you can tell the federal judge how many years you'll spend in a dark cell."

The heavy steel handcuffs locked around Nathan’s wrists behind his back.

He thrashed wildly, weeping like a broken child as the marshals dragged him out through the grand double doors in total, public disgrace, surrounded by news cameras that documented his complete, final downfall.
