Chapter 3 - The Unraveling of Nathan VanceWhile I settled into the quiet luxury of the Lake Forest estate, the financial storm Adrian had unleashed upon Nathan Vance gathered with terrifying, destructive speed.

At 9:00 AM the following morning, Nathan sat inside his executive office on the forty-fifth floor of Vance Development Towers in downtown Chicago. His desk was littered with cold cups of coffee, crumpled financial reports, and three ringing landlines.
Chloe sat on the leather sofa near the floor-to-ceiling windows, her face pale, her hands shaking as she scrolled through her smartphone.
"Nathan!" Chloe cried out, her voice shrill with panic. "The video from the grocery store has two million views on TikTok! Everyone in high society is sharing it! They're calling you a broke bully who got put in his place by Don Moretti!"
"SHUT UP, CHLOE!" Nathan roared, slamming his palm flat onto his glass desk. "I don't care about a stupid video! First National Bank just froze our primary construction loans! Thirty-five million dollars... revoked thirty minutes ago!"
The heavy oak doors of his private office were thrown open without a knock.
Walking into the room, flanked by two armed Federal Marshals and a team of forensic accountants, was Rachel Vance—Nathan’s elder sister and the primary shareholder of the Vance Family Trust.
Rachel wore an immaculate charcoal suit, her dark hair pulled back in a tight knot, her face set in a mask of absolute, freezing rage.
"Rachel!" Nathan gasped, jumping out of his chair. "Thank God you're here! You need to talk to the board! First National is pulling out of the riverfront project—"
THWACK!
Before Nathan could finish his sentence, Rachel walked straight up to his desk and delivered a thunderous backhand blow across his face.
Nathan stumbled backward, hitting his leather chair, clutching his reddening cheek in complete, speech-bound shock.
"YOU ABSOLUTE FOOL!" Rachel screamed, her voice shaking the glass windows. "Do you have any idea what you did yesterday?!"
Chloe gasped, shrinking back into the sofa cushions. "Rachel! He was just standing up to Claire! She's a nobody!"
"Claire is married to Adrian Moretti, you idiot!" Rachel bellowed, turning her furious gaze onto Chloe. "Adrian Moretti controls the primary maritime shipping corridors through Lake Michigan! He controls forty percent of the concrete supply firms in Illinois! By insulting his pregnant wife in a public grocery store, Nathan didn't just embarrass himself... he signed the death warrant for our entire family business!"
Rachel threw a thick Manila binder bound by red judicial seals flat onto the desk.
"The board met at seven this morning," Rachel announced, every word dropping like an iron anvil. "You have been officially stripped of your CEO title, Nathan. Your corporate accounts are frozen, your luxury vehicle leases are revoked, and the family trust has initiated a full audit into the three million dollars you embezzled to buy Chloe's engagement ring."
Nathan’s jaw sagged open in total, horror-stricken realization. His knees buckled, and he collapsed flat onto the carpet floorboards beside his desk.

"No... no... Rachel, please!" Nathan wept, tears of wild, sweat-slicked terror streaming down his face. "You can't do this to me! I'm your brother!"
"You're a liability, Nathan," Rachel noted coldly, turning her back on him. "And by noon today... you won't even have a house to sleep in."
