Chapter 6 - The Rose on Lake GenevaSix months after the afternoon in the board review, the warm spring sun broke peacefully over the private gardens of the Kessler estate on Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

The corporate war with the Moretti syndicate was finished with absolute, crushing finality.

Don Salvatore Moretti was convicted of Federal Extortion and Wire Fraud, receiving a fifteen-year sentence in a maximum-security facility, while Julianna Moretti permanently relocated to Italy after her family’s assets were liquidated under court supervision.

Meanwhile, my life with Dominic transformed into a radiant, sunlit reality.

I no longer worked eighteen-hour shifts at a battered municipal hospital under a condescending administrator. As Director of Pediatric Operations, I oversaw a hundred-million-dollar expansion of the Kessler Pediatric Research Foundation—providing free medical care, advanced surgeries, and housing support for thousands of low-income families across the Midwest.

Eight-year-old Owen, fully recovered from his surgery, sat on the sunny terrace of our Lake Geneva home, playing video games on a brand-new console Dominic had bought him, laughing happily alongside his mother.

On a warm, clear Saturday afternoon in late May, the wide stone terrace of our estate was illuminated by hundreds of soft, white orchids and sunlit champagne for our wedding celebration.

Over two hundred prominent business leaders, medical team members, legal advocates, and close friends gathered around long white-linen tables set up along the lake, enjoying fine food and live acoustic music.

I stood near the marble balustrade wearing a breathtaking, floor-length ivory silk gown designed to celebrate every curve of my frame. My hazel eyes shone with absolute, unshakeable happiness.

Down on my left hand rested a seven-carat flawless emerald-cut diamond engagement ring set in platinum.

Dominic walked out onto the terrace wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, stepping up behind me, wrapping his broad, warm arms around my waist, pulling my back flush against his solid chest.

He pressed a sweet, lingering kiss against my temple, his storm-gray eyes shining with an absolute, unshakeable devotion.

"What are you thinking about, my queen?" Dominic whispered softly into my ear.

I looked out over the vast, sparkling blue waters of Lake Geneva stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.

"I was thinking about Room Fourteen," I answered softly, turning in his arms to rest my hands against his broad chest. "When you sat on a cheap plastic chair for three hours because a little boy held your finger."

Dominic offered a rare, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up his handsome, severe face.

"I walked into that room looking for a way to give back money, Claire," Dominic promised, leaning down to press his lips softly, fiercely against mine in a deep, unhurried kiss. "And I found my soul."
