Chapter 4 - The Unmasking at the PlazaTwo weeks later, the annual Manhattan Financial & Charity Gala took place inside the Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel.

Over six hundred of New York’s most prominent billionaires, corporate titans, state officials, and high-society families gathered beneath the glittering crystal chandeliers.
The main topic of discussion across every table was the dramatic, catastrophic collapse of Kingsley Global and the sudden arrest of Grant Kingsley on his wedding day.
Sitting at a small, obscure table near the back exit was Grant Kingsley.
He had been released on temporary conditional bail funded by his secondary legal team. He looked completely undone—wearing a rumpled suit, his eyes bloodshot, dark purple circles carved deep beneath his hollow cheeks, his fingers trembling as he drank cheap scotch from a bar glass.
He had come to the gala hoping to beg his former board members for a private loan to save his remaining personal properties.
Suddenly, the ambient orchestral music playing over the speakers died down.
The heavy double mahogany doors at the front of the Grand Ballroom swung open.
A quiet, collective gasp rippled across the six hundred guests as a path cleared naturally down the central aisle.
Walking into the room, flanked by four broad-shouldered private security operators, was Dominic Moretti.
And walking beside Dominic—wearing a breathtaking, floor-length emerald silk dress that draped over her radiant, sovereign silhouette, her dark hair styled in glossy waves, resting her hand comfortably on Dominic's arm—was me.
Around my neck rested the Moretti Family Emerald—a thirty-carat flawless gem that held the history and power of one of New York’s oldest dynasties.
Grant dropped his glass of scotch.
CRASH!
The glass shattered against the marble floorboards, spilling liquid across his shoes, but Grant didn't look down.

His jaw sagged open, his eyes bulging out of his head into vast, horrified circles as he stared at the woman he had called "worthless" six months ago.
"Claire...?" Grant stammered out, his voice cracking into a high, pathetic squeak that carried into the quiet room. "What... what is she doing here?!"
