Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary of MorettiThree days later, the rain over Manhattan had cleared, leaving behind a crisp, sunlit sky that reflected off the glass towers of the city.

Inside the penthouse master suite of the Moretti Estate in Upper East Side, a high-end private nursery bathed in soft golden sunlight had been prepared.
The room smelled divine—soft lavender, organic cotton, cedar, and fresh cream.
Sitting in a plush velvet armchair near the wide French doors overlooking Central Park was me.
I wore a comfortable cream silk cardigan and trousers, my dark hair falling in healthy, glossy waves over my shoulders. My physical recovery from the delivery had been smooth, my skin radiant, my face filled with a profound, weightless peace that I hadn't felt in six years.
In my arms, I held my three-day-old daughter, Ava, who lay sleeping peacefully against my chest, wrapped in a soft cashmere blanket.
The heavy oak door opened softly.
Dominic Moretti walked into the room. He had removed his dark suit jacket, his black shirt sleeves rolled up to his forearms, carrying a silver tray with fresh chamomile tea, warm pastries, and a leather folder.
He set the tray on the side table, dropping onto one knee beside my chair, his broad, calloused hand reaching out to gently, reverently stroke tiny Ava's dark hair.
"How are my girls doing?" Dominic asked softly, his slate-gray eyes holding a depth of warmth and fierce devotion that made my heart leap against my ribs.
"We are perfect, Dominic," I answered softly, a radiant, genuine smile touching my lips. "Ava just finished her feeding."
Dominic looked from Ava’s tiny face up to mine, his fingers gently brushing a stray lock of hair behind my ear.
"The Kingsley Global liquidation was finalized an hour ago, Claire," Dominic reported quietly. "Grant’s board of directors voted unanimously to remove him from all executive positions. His private bank accounts have been frozen to satisfy the federal tax liens."
I took a slow, deep breath, feeling the last lingering shadows of my past with Grant evaporate like mist under the warm morning sun.
"And Sienna?" I asked softly.
"Sienna was denied bail this morning," Dominic replied with a razor-sharp, calm smile. "She is facing eight years in a federal facility for commercial bribery and fraud. Dr. Harrison surrendered his medical license two hours ago."
I looked out the window at the vast, sunlit green trees of Central Park stretching below us into the unbroken horizon.
For six years, Grant Kingsley had made me feel small, worthless, and broken. He had used my desire for a child as a weapon to destroy my confidence, branding me "barren" to justify his own greed and cruelty.

Today, sitting in the warm, unbreakable sanctuary that Dominic had built for us, holding my healthy, beautiful daughter in my arms, I knew that Grant hadn't broken me.
He had simply driven me into the arms of a real man.
