Chapter 2 - The Shattered AltarInside the grand marble vestibule of St. Bartholomew’s Church on Park Avenue, the air smelled of imported white lilies, expensive perfume, and sudden, absolute panic.

Grant Kingsley stood beneath the gold-leaf arches, his phone frozen against his ear, his face paper-white, sweat pouring down his forehead, ruining his five-thousand-dollar bespoke silk collar.

Standing two feet away, wearing a fifty-thousand-dollar lace bridal gown, holding a bouquet of white orchids, was Sienna Vale.

Her manicured hands were trembling so violently that the orchids shook against her silk dress.

"Grant...?" Sienna whispered, her voice cracking into sharp, terrified fragments as she looked at his frozen expression. "Grant, darling... what did she say? Why did you mention Dr. Harrison?!"

Grant turned his head slowly, his bloodshot eyes locking onto his bride with an intensity so dark, so wild, and so utterly devoid of affection that Sienna took an involuntary half-step back against her chief bridesmaid.

"Dr. Harrison," Grant rasped out, his baritone shaking with pure, unadulterated fury. "Did you wire money to Dr. Harrison six months ago?!"

The five hundred high-society guests seated in the mahogany pews—bankers, real estate moguls, socialites, and reporters—turned their heads, their hushed conversations dying out instantly as Grant’s shouting echoed off the stained-glass windows.

"Grant, please! Not here!" Sienna begged, her face draining of color under her heavy makeup. "The reporters are watching! The ceremony starts in ten minutes!"

"DID YOU WIRE THE MONEY?!" Grant roared, grabbing Sienna’s lace sleeve with a heavy, bruising grip.

"Yes!" Sienna shrieked in panic, trying to pull her arm back. "I did it for us, Grant! You wanted an excuse to end the marriage without paying her a fifty-million-dollar spousal settlement! I saved you millions!"

A collective, horrified gasp exploded across the five hundred guests in the chapel.

The reporters in the back row began frantically snapping high-resolution photos, their camera flashbulbs popping like silver lightning across the marble vestibule.

Before Grant could scream another word, the heavy double oak doors of the church were pushed open.

Four uniformed agents from the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation Division, flanked by two city marshals, stepped cleanly into the chapel.

Leading them was Senior Auditor Marcus Sterling.

"Grant Kingsley and Sienna Vale," Auditor Sterling announced, his voice booming through the silent church. "We hold an emergency judicial warrant for the immediate seizure of all Kingsley Global corporate assets, along with an arrest warrant for systemic tax fraud, commercial bribery, and falsification of medical records."

Sienna let out a high-pitched, hysterical shriek, dropping her bouquet of orchids onto the marble floor, where it was crushed beneath the marshals' boots.

Grant stood frozen as heavy steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists over his tailored suit cuffs, his eyes wide, bloodshot, and filled with pure, agonizing ruin as he realized that his wedding day had turned into his execution.
