Chapter 5 - The Terms of the SovereignElena stared at the leather binder resting on her emerald silk dress.

"What is this?" she whispered.

"An official marital agreement," Dante explained smoothly, his baritone steady and absolute. "My family’s primary holding network across New England requires a legitimate, legally binding marriage to execute our international trust transfers by the end of this year. I have zero interest in arranged corporate marriages with manipulative women like Vivien Cole."

He leaned closer, his scent of cedarwood, rain, and raw power wrapping around her senses.

"I need a woman with iron in her spine," Dante murmured. "A woman who came from nothing, who survived betrayal without losing her soul, and who can stand beside me in a room full of monsters without blinking."

Elena opened the binder.

The legal terms printed across the white pages were astounding:

A permanent, non-revocable fifty-million-dollar personal asset trust established in Elena Reyes’s name upon signature.

Full medical and housing trust funding for her mother's care home in perpetuity.

Complete legal and financial immunity from any claims by the Aldridge or Cole families.

A quiet, independent residence in Como, Italy, or Chicago, with zero restrictions on her personal freedom.

"This is... insane, Dante," Elena breathed, her eyes wide as she read the numbers. "You're offering me an empire for a marriage of convenience?"

"It is not a marriage of convenience, Elena," Dante corrected softly, his long fingers reaching out to cover her hand over the document. "It is a partnership. In my world, loyalty is the only currency that matters. You gave me your trust in that hallway when you had every reason to run. I am offering you protection for the rest of your life."

Elena looked out the window at the sparkling lights of Chicago reflecting off the dark surface of the river.

Three hours ago, she was an invisible girl who had taken three public buses to sit in the back row of her ex-fiancé's wedding, waiting to be pitied by people who viewed her as trash.

Now, she sat in an armored Maybach, holding the pen to an empire, surrounded by the fierce, unyielding protection of a man who made the entire city tremble.

She picked up the silver pen resting inside the binder.

She looked into Dante's storm-gray eyes. "On one condition."

Dante raised an eyebrow, a subtle flicker of amusement touching his lips. "Name it."

"Marcus Aldridge’s investment firm," Elena said, her voice dropping into a razor-sharp, clear register. "I want his board to run a full, independent audit of his personal trading accounts tomorrow morning."

Dante let out a low, deep laugh that echoed warmly through the leather cabin—a rich, genuine sound that lit up his severe features.

"It was already ordered twenty minutes ago, my queen," Dante promised softly.

Elena smiled—a real, radiant, unbroken smile—and pressed her signature firmly across the gold line: ELENA REYES-SALVATORE.
