Chapter 5 - The Reconstruction of the MansionBy midnight, a soft, peaceful rain fell over the manicured grounds of the Mercer Estate in Chestnut Hill.

The dark, predatory shadow of Victor Mercer and the corrupt syndicate was permanently, historically erased.

Under Adrian’s leadership, Mercer Global Logistics was fully converted into a transparent, multi-billion-dollar international shipping empire, with thirty percent of its voting equity assigned to the Lily & Emma Mercer Protection Trust, while twenty percent of its annual profits funded pediatric toxicology research across Massachusetts.

The Mercer mansion—once a cold, silent prison of grief—was completely transformed.

The heavy black drapes were permanently removed, allowing warm sunlit gold to illuminate every room. The hallways were filled with the scent of fresh white lilies, warm pastries, and soft acoustic music, while the silver laughter of six-year-old Lily and Emma echoed through the manicured gardens every single day.

The twin girls made a full, miraculous recovery.

Their fevers were gone, their nightmares ceased completely, and they no longer feared closed doors or dark corridors. They excelled in their primary school classes, learned horseback riding, and spent their afternoons painting bright butterflies in the sunlit conservatory with me.

Adrian was no longer the distant, terrifying Don who spent eighteen hours a day buried in dark offices.

He was home every afternoon by four o'clock, sitting on the rug in the living room building wooden dollhouses with the twins, holding my hand as we walked through the gardens, his storm-gray eyes shining with an absolute, unshakeable love that lit up his severe face.
