Chapter 4 - The Execution of JusticeAdrian tapped the encrypted tablet once with his thumb.

The massive projection screen above the stage illuminated with high-definition digital text, audio recordings, and toxicological lab reports.

The red numbers lit up the dark boardroom:

FORENSIC TOXICOLOGY REPORT: BOSTON GENERAL HOSPITAL — Confirming trace heavy-metal poisoning in Rebecca Mercer's medical files, signed by the Chief Medical Examiner.

INTERCEPTED AUDIO WIRE TAPS — Capturing Victor Mercer offering Dr. Reynolds two million dollars to alter six-year-old Lily and Emma's fever prescriptions.

FEDERAL RICO INDICTMENTS — Issued at 10:00 AM today by the United States Attorney’s Office for High Treason, Murder, and Extortion.

Victor Mercer took two fast, clumsy steps backward, his face turning an ugly, mottled shade of paper-white as he clutched his chest. "No... no! This is a fabrication! These papers are forged!"

"They aren't forged, Victor," I spoke cleanly. My deep, steady voice carried across the quiet room as I opened the black leather dossier, laying the original, notarized documents directly in front of the board members. "Every wire-transfer path, every secondary offshore account in Grand Cayman, and every medical record has been verified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation."

Four heavy double doors near the rear archway were thrown open as thirty fully armed Federal Marshals swept into the boardroom, their weapons trained directly on Victor Mercer and his lieutenants.

"FEDERAL AGENTS! DON'T MOVE!" the lead marshal bellowed.

Victor thrashed wildly, screaming curses as two marshals slapped heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists, forcing him flat against the mahogany table.

CLICK. CLICK.

"Adrian! You bastard!" Victor shrieked in total, groveling panic as he was dragged toward the exit. "I am your blood! I am a Mercer!"

Adrian stepped two inches from his uncle's face, looking down at him with an absolute, freezing disdain that cut deeper than any blade.

"You murdered my wife, Victor," Adrian whispered softly, every word carrying an unyielding, final mortality. "You tried to poison my daughters. You are no longer family. You are a ghost."

The entire boardroom stood in complete, spellbound silence as Victor Mercer and his corrupt faction were dragged out in chains to face lifetime federal imprisonment without parole.
