Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeAt 8:30 PM, as the spring sun dipped below the Chicago horizon, painting the sky in sweeping tapestries of indigo and gold, the private terrace was illuminated by dozens of soft, twinkling fairy lights.

Marco raised his champagne glass toward our table, his deep baritone carrying cleanly across the quiet grounds.

"To Don Dorian and Donna Ren Kaine!" Marco toasted with deep, genuine pride. "The sovereign leaders who rule Chicago with unbroken strength, truth, and eternal love!"

"To Dorian and Ren!" the entire terrace echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, dozens of crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.

Dorian raised his glass, taking a slow sip of fine wine, holding Ren tight against his beating heart under the vast, open sky.

The acoustic band began playing a slow, romantic melody that drifted through the quiet evening air, mixing with the gentle sound of the lake waves crashing against the rocks below.

Dorian took her hand, guiding her out onto the center of the stone terrace under the twinkling fairy lights, sweeping her body into a smooth, effortless turn beneath the stars.

"Do you know what I thought when I saw you by that column, Ren?" Dorian murmured into her dark hair as they danced under the stars.

"What did you think?" Ren asked, looking up into his storm-gray eyes.

"I thought that the most intelligent, beautiful woman in Chicago was being ignored by fools who didn't deserve her," Dorian revealed softly, his hand tightening around her waist. "And I decided to give her the world."

Ren rested her head comfortably against his broad chest, feeling his heart beat strong and steady beneath his suit, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of her soul.

There were no cruel sisters laughing at pale-blue dresses. There were no silent fathers leaving daughters in basements. There were no safety pins scratching tender skin.

The ignored, invisible daughter was dead forever. The sovereign matriarch had claimed her throne.

And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the arms of the man who loved every inch of her body and soul, holding her head high, Ren knew that her life, her heart, and her future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
