Chapter 6 - A New DawnThe morning sun broke over the Chicago skyline, casting brilliant shafts of golden light across the waters of Lake Michigan and streaming through the pristine windows of the specialized surgical suite at Rosewood Women’s Medical Center—now temporarily operating under direct federal and state medical board receivership.

Inside the operating room, the atmosphere was calm, focused, and filled with quiet competence.
Margaret sat in the waiting room down the hall, her hands resting calmly on her lap, holding a small, soft baby blanket she had knitted herself. Though her heart beat with eager anticipation, her mind was entirely at peace. She knew Arthur Vance was handling the asset liquidation downstairs, ensuring that every cent Michael Carter had stolen would be funneled directly into a trust fund for Emily and the newborn child.
Suddenly, the surgical doors swung open.
A nurse in blue scrubs stepped out into the hallway, pulling down her surgical mask to reveal a wide, radiant smile.
"Ms. Evans?" the nurse called out cheerfully. "Congratulations. You have a healthy, beautiful granddaughter. Eight pounds, four ounces. And mom is doing wonderfully."
Margaret stood up so fast her chair scraped against the floor. A wave of pure, unadulterated joy washed over her, bringing hot tears to her eyes—not tears of sorrow or vengeance this time, but tears of absolute triumph.
"Can I... can I see them?" Margaret asked, her voice cracking slightly.
"Right this way," the nurse beamed, leading her down the corridor toward the recovery ward.
Ten minutes later, Margaret stood beside Emily’s recovery bed.
Emily looked tired, pale from the ordeal, but her face was illuminated by a radiant, glowing smile that Margaret hadn't seen in years. Cradled securely in Emily’s arms was a tiny, perfect infant wrapped in a pink blanket, sleeping peacefully with a tuft of dark hair and tiny, flawless fingers.
"Mom," Emily whispered, looking up with misty eyes as she gently shifted the baby toward her. "Do you want to hold her?"
Margaret’s hands shook slightly as she reached out, scooping the tiny bundle into her arms. The baby let out a soft, sleepy sigh, burrowing instinctively against Margaret’s chest.

"Hello, little one," Margaret whispered, her voice thick with emotion as she kissed the baby’s soft forehead. "I'm your grandma. And I promise you, nobody is ever going to hurt your mother or you again. Ever."
Emily reached out, resting her hand over her mother’s arm. The circle of protection was complete. The nightmare was over, and the dawn of a completely new life had begun.
