Chapter 1 - The Scars Beneath the White LiliesThe luxury presidential suite of the Grandon Hotel smelled faintly of sweet white lilies, expensive champagne, and the suffocating residue of an elaborate wedding night.

They were toasting a fairy tale. They had no idea that upstairs, the illusion of perfection had just shattered into razor-sharp fragments.
“What the hell is this, Genevieve?”
Julian’s voice ripped through the quiet suite, harsh, trembling with disbelief, and entirely out of place in a room meant for romance.
Genevieve stood frozen beside the king-sized bed, clutching a white bath towel tightly around her trembling frame. Hot tears spilled over her lashes, cutting clean paths through her powder-make-up, but she didn’t sob. She simply stared at the man who, only hours before at the altar, had promised to cherish and protect her for the rest of his life.
A minute earlier, the atmosphere had been completely different. When Julian gently reached for his bride to unlace her pristine white wedding gown, his fingers had brushed against something entirely unexpected.
Instead of smooth, flawless skin, his palm encountered hard, uneven, corded ridges beneath the fabric.
Confused, he had pulled the zipper down. When the white silk slipped away and the towel dropped, his breath completely vanished.
Old, jagged surgical marks crisscrossed Genevieve’s back, wrapped around her abdomen, and traced a brutal path down her left flank. They were not ordinary surgical lines; they were thick, ropey scars—the unmistakable signature of extensive, invasive, and repeated trauma carried out by scalpels.
“If you married me simply because you pitied me, Julian, then say it now,” Genevieve whispered, her voice barely audible over the hum of the city lights outside. “But please... don’t look at me like I’m a broken doll.”
Julian remained completely frozen, his hands still hovering in the air where the towel had been. A cold, heavy dread began to pool in his stomach, replacing the warm champagne haze.
“Who did this to you?” Julian demanded, his voice dropping into a dangerous, controlled growl. “Did someone attack you? Was it an accident? Tell me right now.”
Genevieve said nothing. A profound, heartbreaking sorrow filled her eyes. She turned slowly away from him, walking over to her open bridal luggage resting on the luggage rack. Her fingers slipped beneath the false bottom lining, pulling out a thick, yellowed, weathered medical folder she had hidden and protected for years.
She walked back toward him, her bare feet silent against the plush carpet, and held out the folder.
“The people you introduced tonight as my parents,” she said softly, her voice steady despite the tears. “The people everyone in that ballroom is downstairs praising right now... Dr. Arthur Sterling and his wife.”
Julian stared at the folder, refusing to reach for it yet. “What are you talking about?”
“Before you judge me, Julian... before you decide what kind of woman I am... look at the name of the person who authorized every single one of those procedures.”
Julian’s hand finally shot out, snatching the folder from her fingers. The cardboard was worn, the pages inside dog-eared and stained with age.
His eyes scanned the first medical report.
Patient: Genevieve Sterling. Age: Seven.
Procedure: Partial liver lobectomy.
Julian’s breath caught. He flipped the page, his hands beginning to shake.
Patient: Genevieve Sterling. Age: Nine.
Procedure: Bone marrow harvest.
He flipped again, his heart slamming against his ribs.
Patient: Genevieve Sterling. Age: Twelve.
Procedure: Left nephrectomy. (Kidney extraction for compatible recipient).
All of them completed while Genevieve was still a child. All of them performed under the guise of “routine pediatric care” within the private surgical wings of Sterling Memorial Hospital.
Then, Julian reached the final page.
The authorization section.
His eyes locked onto the signature lines. The warmth in his veins instantly turned to ice. His confidence vanished. The blood roared in his ears.
The person listed under Primary Authorized Guardian was Dr. Arthur Sterling.
But right beside it, co-signing every surgical waiver, every organ extraction, and every medical sacrifice, was another name.
A name that belonged to someone sitting downstairs at their wedding reception right now. A person who had smiled warmly, embraced Julian in the receiving line, and proudly placed Genevieve’s hand into his at the altar.
The horrifying, stomach-churning truth finally crystallized in Julian’s mind.
Genevieve was never adopted out of compassion. She was never rescued from the orphanage because the Sterlings wanted a daughter.
She was bred and preserved.
Used as a living, breathing biological warehouse—a spare parts cabinet kept alive exclusively to serve Chloe Sterling, the Sterlings’ golden, favored biological child, whenever her sickly body required a fresh organ or tissue transplant.
And the person who signed off on the torture, smiling all the while, was sitting right downstairs celebrating with Julian’s closest business partners and family members.

Julian slowly rose from the floor. His expression went completely blank, erasing every trace of human emotion. A terrifying, dead silence settled over the presidential suite.
Without uttering a single word, Julian adjusted his black tuxedo cufflinks, turned his back on the horrified wedding guests downstairs, and walked slowly toward the heavy suite door.
