Chapter 5 - Shadows Closing InThe reception hall dissolved into outright chaos as guests began whispering furiously among themselves, discreetly reaching for their phones to check their stock portfolios, bank accounts, and business holdings. The illusion of untouchable wealth had shattered.

Councilman Vance lunged forward, his face twisted in rage. “You’re destroying my family over a petty vendetta? I’ll have the state attorney general investigating every front company you own by dawn!”

Dante didn’t even blink. He raised a single finger, and two of his elite operatives stepped forward, gently but firmly intercepting the councilman before he could take another step. One operative leaned in and whispered something into the politician's ear—a single piece of confidential information regarding offshore accounts and zoning bribes.

The councilman froze, sagging against a marble pillar as all the fight drained out of him instantly.

“You don't want to investigate anything, Councilman,” Dante said quietly. “Trust me. It’s bad for your blood pressure.”

Marcus dropped into a velvet-upholstered chair near the head table, burying his face in his hands as his mother wept loudly into a designer handkerchief. Vivien stood isolated in her pristine white Vera Wang gown, realizing too late that her malicious wedding trap had sprung shut on her own neck. The grand alliance of wealth and status had collapsed into a cage of their own making.

Dante offered his hand to Elena. “Shall we leave them to their celebration?”

As they turned and walked back down the aisle—the same aisle where Elena had walked in feeling invisible and defeated—the crowd parted like water before a leviathan. Not a single person dared to look them in the eye.
