Chapter 7 - The Sunset Over the HarborSix months later.

The evening sun dipped below the Manhattan skyline, painting the Hudson River in brilliant shades of amber, violet, and gold.

Standing on the private teak deck of Salvatore’s yacht as it glided smoothly past the Statue of Liberty, I wore an emerald-green silk gown—the exact color of the dress I had worn the night my old life ended.

Only this time, I wasn't running. I wasn't hiding.

“Penny for your thoughts, Dr. Cross,” a familiar, deep voice murmured against my ear.

Strong arms wrapped around my waist from behind, pulling me securely against a warm, broad chest. I leaned back into Salvatore, resting my head against his shoulder as I looked out over the glittering city lights.

“I was just thinking about how ironic life is,” I smiled, turning slightly in his embrace to wrap my arms around his neck. “If someone hadn't tried to push me off that pier, I never would have met you.”

Salvatore’s dark eyes softened. He reached up, gently tucking a stray curl behind my ear, his gaze filled with a fierce, unconditional devotion.

“Some people look at the abyss and see only death, Elena,” Salvatore whispered, pressing a soft kiss to my forehead. “I looked at the water that night and found my entire world.”

I smiled, pressing my lips to his in the warm evening breeze, knowing that no matter what storms lay ahead, we were anchored together for the rest of time.
