Chapter 6 - The BreachTwo months passed in a dream of fiery passion and absolute devotion.

The cold, intimidating Rossi estate had transformed into a true home. I moved out of the servant quarters entirely, taking my place in the master wing beside Lorenzo. Every night, we slept wrapped in each other's arms, finding solace in our shared grief and building a breathtaking future together.
Leo was growing rapidly, turning four months old, loud, healthy, and full of laughter.
But peace in the underworld is a fragile, fleeting thing.
On a stormy Thursday night in late November, the thunder rattled the stained-glass windows of the nursery. Lorenzo was away in Manhattan, attending a mandatory emergency meeting with the syndicate harbor bosses to finalize the total blockade of the Moretti shipping routes.
I was sitting in the nursery rocking chair, burping Leo after his late-night feed, when suddenly—
BOOM!
A massive explosion rocked the foundation of the mansion! The lights flickered out instantly, plunging the nursery into pitch-black darkness!
Emergency red backup lights clicked on, bathing the room in an eerie, blood-red glow.
Sirens wailed across the estate. Automatic gunfire echoed from the front courtyard, accompanied by shouting, shattering glass, and heavy footsteps rushing up the grand staircase!
The estate had been breached.
My heart hammered against my throat! I grabbed Leo, tucking him securely into an emergency chest harness against my body, pulling a heavy dark cloak over us both.
The nursery doors burst open!
I gasped, backing away toward the wall, reaching for a heavy brass lamp on the table.
Mateo rushed into the room, his white shirt soaked in blood, an automatic rifle held in his hands.
"Hunter! We have to move now!" Mateo yelled above the sound of gunfire. "Moretti’s men launched a surprise assault on the west gate! They cut the power lines and used explosives to blow through the main doors!"
"Where is Lorenzo?!" I cried, holding Leo tight as the infant began to cry in terror.
"He’s driving back from the city now with fifty men, but he’s fifteen minutes away!" Mateo barked, motioning for me to follow him down the servant staircase hidden behind the bookshelf. "We have to get you and the baby to the underground bunker beneath the wine cellar!"
We sprinted through the narrow, dark servant corridors as explosions shook the walls above us. Shots echoed through the halls—Lorenzo’s security guards were fighting fiercely, but Moretti’s hitmen had numerical superiority.
We reached the heavy iron door of the wine cellar. Mateo punched in a six-digit code, and the heavy metal door clicked open.
"Get inside, Hunter!" Mateo urged, pushing me into the dark, stone-walled bunker. "Lock the door from the inside! Don't open it for anyone except Lorenzo!"
Before I could pull the door shut, a shotgun blast echoed through the corridor!
Mateo collapsed to the floor with a agonized groan!
Standing at the end of the dark hallway, holding a smoking shotgun, was Dante Moretti himself, flanked by three heavily armed hitmen in black tactical gear!
"Well, well, well..." Dante sneered, stepping over Mateo’s bleeding body, racking his shotgun with a sickening clack-clack. "Look what we have here. The milkmaid and the little miracle baby."
I backed into the cold concrete bunker, my chest heaving, my arms clutching Leo against my beating heart. "Touch him, Dante, and Lorenzo will skin you alive!"
Dante laughed—a manic, desperate sound. "Lorenzo’s empire dies tonight, sweetie! Once I put a bullet in this baby's head, the Rossi bloodline ends forever!"
Dante raised his shotgun, aiming it straight at my chest!
I shut my eyes, turning my back to shield Leo with my body, bracing for the impact of the lead shot—
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
A barrage of deafening gunshots shattered the enclosed space!
Warm blood splattered against the concrete wall, but it wasn't mine!
I opened my eyes and spun around.
Dante Moretti was standing frozen, three massive bullet holes blasted through his chest! He looked down at his bleeding body in utter shock, dropped his shotgun, and collapsed dead onto the stone floor!
Behind him, standing in the doorway framed by smoke and holding a heavy black pistol, was Lorenzo.
His dark suit was splattered with rain and blood, his grey eyes burning with an apocalyptic, demon-like rage. Behind him, dozens of his elite guards were already securing the hallway, eliminating the remaining intruders.
Lorenzo dropped his smoking gun, sprinted into the bunker, and threw his massive arms around Leo and me, pulling us into a crushing, desperate embrace.
"Hunter..." Lorenzo gasped, his voice shaking with pure, unadulterated terror as he kissed my hair, my face, my neck, checking every inch of my body for injuries. "My God... Hunter... are you hurt?! Is Leo hurt?!"

"We're okay..." I sobbed, sinking into his strong chest, wrapping my arms around his neck as tears of relief washed over my face. "We're okay, Lorenzo... you came... you came for us..."
"I will always come for you," Lorenzo swore, his tears mixing with the rain on his cheeks as he held us close against his heart. "Always."
