Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeSix months after the rainy night at Murphy's Bar, the grand oceanfront terrace of our private estate in East Hampton was illuminated by hundreds of soft, twinkling fairy lights for a warm, clear autumn evening celebration.

A private gathering of sixty close friends, medical team members, corporate partners, and legal staff sat at long white-linen tables set up along the stone patio overlooking the dark, peaceful waters of the Atlantic.

Michael—healthy, laughing, and radiant—sat near the center table with his friends, enjoying fine food and warm music.

I stood near the marble balustrade wearing a breathtaking, floor-length emerald silk gown that caught the moonlight like liquid gold. My skin was smooth, my eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable confidence, holding the royal posture of a woman who had conquered the dark and claimed her throne.

Down on my left hand rested a five-carat flawless emerald-cut diamond ring—a promise carved in platinum and light.

Nathan stepped up beside me, wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, holding two glasses of fine champagne.

He wrapped his broad arm around my waist, pulling me flush against his side, his gray eyes shining with infinite devotion as he looked down at me.

"What are you thinking about, my love?" Nathan whispered softly into my ear.

I looked out over the vast, sparkling blue water stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.

"I was thinking about the night you walked into Murphy's Bar," I answered softly, turning my head to press a sweet kiss against his cheek. "When you asked me who hurt me."

Nathan looked down into my eyes, his grip on my waist tight, unshakeable, and absolute.

"And by sunrise," Nathan promised softly, "he was begging for mercy."

Nathan raised his champagne glass toward the night sky, his deep baritone carrying smooth, clear, and warm across the quiet terrace.

"A toast!" Nathan announced cleanly. "To Donna Sophie Blackwood! The woman who broke the dark, protected her family, reclaimed her freedom, and built a kingdom of truth, light, and unbroken love!"

"To Sophie!" the entire terrace echoed in a warm, triumphant chorus, sixty glasses clinking together in the golden candlelight.

I raised my glass, taking a slow sip of fine champagne, looking out over the vast, dark, beautiful water stretching before me into the unbroken horizon.

There were no abusive boyfriends waiting in dark alleys. There were no unpaid medical bills hanging over my head. There were no tears swallowed in quiet rooms.

The quiet, terrified waitress was dead forever. The sovereign matriarch had claimed her throne.

And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the arms of the man who loved me, holding my head high, I knew that my life, my heart, and my future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
