Chapter 6 - The Sanctuary in GreenwichSix months after our wedding celebration, the golden autumn sun painted the sky over our Greenwich estate in brilliant shades of rose, amber, and deep sapphire.

My younger brother-in-law, Marco—who had fully recovered from his highway accident—sat on the sunny patio with my chief of security, Leo, laughing as they reviewed architectural plans for the new Nora Ferrara Foundation for Abused Youth.
The foundation was funded through my restored trust assets, providing free medical care, safe housing, and legal protection for exploited children across New York.
I sat on a plush sofa near the hearth wearing a comfortable cream cashmere sweater, holding a warm cup of chamomile tea, watching the golden leaves drift softly across the green lawn.
Nico stepped out onto the patio wearing a dark linen shirt, carrying a soft fleece blanket. He sat beside me, wrapping the blanket around my shoulders, pulling my frame flush against his solid side.
"How are you feeling today, Nora?" Nico asked softly, his thumb gently stroking my wrist.
"I feel complete, Nico," I answered, leaning my head comfortably against his broad shoulder, smelling his scent of cedarwood, rainfall, and raw strength. "There are no shadows left in this house."
Nico reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small, velvet-lined jeweler's box, opening it flat onto my lap.
Inside rested a handcrafted platinum bracelet engraved with the words: UNBROKEN AND FOREVER SOVEREIGN.
Tears of pure, weightless joy welling in my eyes, I looked up into his handsome face.
"Nico..." I whispered.
May you like
"You survived eleven years in the dark, Nora," Nico murmured, taking the bracelet and sliding it over my wrist, his storm-gray eyes burning with an unshakeable, eternal vow. "You conquered your past, reclaimed your name, and taught me how to love. You are the sovereign heart of this family."
I leaned up, pressing my lips softly, sweetly against his in a deep, unhurried kiss that sealed our promise for all the years to come.
