Chapter 5 - The Corporate RestorationThe executive boardroom of Whitaker-Cross Enterprises—soon to be officially renamed Whitaker Global Holdings—was packed to absolute capacity by 7:55 AM.

Whispers filled the air like static electricity. Financial news networks had spent the entire morning broadcasting breaking updates about the overnight arrest of CEO Sterling Cross on federal conspiracy and fraud charges. As the heavy double doors swung open, every head in the room snapped toward the entrance.
I walked in first, wearing a sharp, tailored midnight-blue pantsuit, my posture upright, unyielding, and radiating absolute authority. Behind me walked Julian Vance and a team of senior corporate auditors carrying heavy digital dossiers.
Seated near the far end of the long glass table were several legacy board members who had quietly looked the other way while Sterling expanded his corrupt influence over the company. Their faces were pale, their eyes glued nervously to the polished glass surface in front of them.
I walked straight to the head of the table, placed my leather portfolio down, and sat in the primary executive chair that Sterling had occupied for years.
"Good morning, everyone," I said, my voice carrying clearly across the silent room, echoing off the high glass walls. "I assume you've all had a chance to review the morning financial briefings and the federal indictment filings distributed by my legal team."
A tense silence hung in the air. Finally, Arthur Pendelton, the senior-most board member who had served alongside my grandfather, cleared his throat and spoke up.
"Julianna... the board is deeply shocked by these developments," Arthur stammered cautiously. "Sterling’s arrest leaves a massive leadership vacuum. The stock market opens in thirty minutes, and investors are panicking. What is our immediate strategy?"
I didn't blink. I opened my portfolio, pulled out a certified corporate restructuring document, and slid it across the glass table toward him.
"There is no vacuum, Arthur," I replied calmly. "Effective immediately, by virtue of my fifty-one percent controlling voting shares held through the primary family trust, I am assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board."
A collective gasp rippled through the room. One of the younger junior executives started to protest. "Ms. Cross—excuse me, Ms. Whitaker—while we respect your family lineage, running a multi-billion-dollar global enterprise requires extensive executive experience, and—"
"And embezzlement, corporate espionage, and plotting murders require a different kind of experience, which Sterling has kindly taken with him to a federal holding cell," I interrupted sharply, my eyes locking onto the dissenting executive with a gaze so cold he immediately shrank back into his chair.
"Under my leadership," I continued, standing up and leaning slightly over the table, "we are launching an immediate, comprehensive internal audit of every single subsidiary, contract, and overseas account linked to Sterling’s administration. Any executive found to be complicit in his illegal activities will be terminated and handed over to federal prosecutors by noon today."

I paused, letting the heavy weight of my words settle over every single person in the room.
"We are returning this company to its core ethical foundation," I concluded, buttoning my blazer with deliberate, steady movements. "The meeting is adjourned. Get to work."
