Chapter 3 - The Unmasking at the Whitaker TowerAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the fifty-story executive boardroom of Whitaker Enterprise Group on Michigan Avenue was packed to absolute capacity.

Richard Whitaker—Grant’s arrogant fifty-eight-year-old father—sat at the head of the mahogany conference table alongside Grant and his new fiancée, Brielle. Over forty corporate investors, board members, and reporters gathered to witness the formal signing of a $150 million commercial lease for the South Chicago Pier.
"Gentlemen," Richard Whitaker announced smugly, adjusting his silk tie. "Today, Whitaker Enterprise permanently consolidates our hold over the South Chicago waterfront—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the boardroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
Walking down the central carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four federal marshals, was Vincent Rossi.
He wore an magnificent charcoal bespoke suit, his tall six-foot-three frame radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to zero.
And walking right beside Vincent, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark navy silk dress that celebrated my five-month pregnant bump with queenly elegance, holding the completed silver compass openly against my chest, was me.
Grant dropped his silver pen. His face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green.
"T-Tessa...?!" Grant stammered, taking two frantic steps backward. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?! HOW DID YOU GET INTO THIS BUILDING?!"
"She didn't come to visit, Grant," Vincent announced flatly, his deep baritone carrying cleanly across the silent boardroom. "She came to evict you."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Richard Whitaker’s trembling hands:
IMMEDIATE ASSET FORECLOSURE: Certified enforcement of the 1996 Marlowe Title, stripping Whitaker Enterprise of all operational control over the South Chicago Pier.
CORPORATE SEIZURE: Freezing of all bank accounts registered under Grant and Richard Whitaker due to $45 million in embezzled trust capital.
CRIMINAL ARREST WARRANTS: Federal warrants served on Richard Whitaker for First-Degree Premeditated Murder, Systemic Wire Fraud, and Poisoning.
Richard Whitaker thrashed and shrieked in terror as federal officers stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs.
"Richard Whitaker," Lead Marshal Miller declared coldly. "You are under arrest for the murder of Walter Marlowe."
CLICK. CLICK.
Grant fell flat onto his knees on the carpeted floorboards, groveling frantically as he looked up at me.
"Tessa... please!" Grant wept, reaching his hands out toward my dress. "I didn't know my father poisoned your dad! I swear I loved you! Think of our baby!"
I looked down at my ex-fiancé with an absolute, clean, weightless disgust.
May you like
"You threw a hundred-dollar bill at my feet in a grocery store yesterday, Grant," I answered softly, my voice cold as winter ice. "You mocked my father's memory and called my child a burden. You never loved me. You loved what you tried to steal."
Marshals dragged Richard and Grant Whitaker out of the building in total, public disgrace, surrounded by news cameras capturing their complete downfall for the afternoon news.
