Chapter 4 - The Liquidation of a GhostThe high-definition, eighty-foot media screens behind the dais illuminated simultaneously, displaying certified corporate audit documents stamped by the Federal Trade Commission and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

"Over the past three years," I revealed smoothly, pointing at the glowing numbers on the wall, "Moretti Logistics was maintained through artificial credit lines granted under my private executive proxy. However, as of six o'clock this evening, those proxy guarantees have been permanently revoked."
The four regional bank presidents standing near Julian gasped, pulling out their phones frantically as they read the live audit logs.
"My God..." one of the bankers rasped out. "Moretti Logistics has a thirty-million-dollar deficit! Their deep-water port leases in Europe are completely unbacked!"
"Call in the short-term loans!" another bank president ordered into his phone. "Freeze their primary accounts immediately!"
Julian took two frantic steps toward the stage, his hands raised in a wild, groveling plea. "Clara! Please! Clara, listen to me! I didn't know! I swear to God I didn't know you were Clara Sterling! We can fix this! We're married! Everything I built, I built for us!"
"You didn't build anything, Julian," I said softly, my voice dropping into a deadpan, precise register that carried clearly across the quiet room. "You wore the watch I bought you. You used the credit lines I authorized. You lived in the mansion my trust purchased. And tonight, you told me that everything I had existed because of you."
Evelyn let out a high-pitched, hysterical sob, grabbing Julian’s tuxedo lapels. "Julian! Do something! Tell her you love her! Tell her to turn off those screens! The bank is freezing our private trust!"
Chloe burst into tears, dropping her designer handbag onto the rug, realizing that her luxury cars, her high-society allowances, and her pristine lifestyle had just vanished into thin air.
Victoria Sterling backed away from Julian as if he carried a contagious plague. She pulled her hand away from his arm, her eyes darting frantically toward the exit doors, trying to distance herself from the catastrophic, public destruction of Moretti Logistics.
"Victoria...?" Julian whimpered, turning his head in shock as his mistress backed away from him. "Victoria, where are you going?!"
"Get away from me, Julian!" Victoria spat, her charming mask completely shattered into ugly, selfish rage. "You told me you were a billionaire! You told me you owned the shipping terminals! You're an insolvent fraud!"
The surrounding guests let out sharp, mocking laughs, whispering and pointing their cameras as Victoria abandoned Julian in the center of the ballroom floor.
I looked down at my husband—a man who had traded his marriage, his honor, and his life for twenty minutes of artificial applause—now standing completely alone in the ruins of his lies.
"Marcus," I commanded cleanly from the microphone.
May you like
"Yes, Chairman?" Marcus answered from the foot of the stage.
"Have security escort Mr. Moretti and his family off the premises," I ordered softly. "They are cluttering my gala."
