Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Emerald CradleIn late September 2027, one year after that miraculous night in the bathroom, the grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Maya & Lena Moretti Heritage & Maternal Protection Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark bespoke charcoal tuxedo, his broad six-foot-three frame squared, his handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, holding ten-month-old baby Maya in his arms, was Don Vincent Moretti.
Beside him stood Donna Lena Bennett-Moretti, looking breathtaking in a floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown that celebrated her graceful figure, her hazel eyes glowing with complete happiness.
Around my neck hung my late mother’s restored gold signet pendant.
Vincent adjusted the microphone, his deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"One year ago, an arrogant coward broke my daughter's arm, told her nobody was coming to save her, and learned what happens when you touch my blood," Vincent announced to the silent room, his storm-gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable emotion as he looked down at me and baby Maya. "And on that night, my brave daughter held her eight-minute promise, protected her baby, and brought my entire world back to the light."
Vincent held his champagne glass high under the glittering lights.
