Chapter 4 - The Public PurgeWhile Vincent sat in total, isolated disgrace at the Lake Forest estate, stripped of his corporate power, the secondary fallout from my lobby stunt detonated across Chicago like a series of targeted warheads.

By 5:00 PM that afternoon, news of the enormous red bouquet, the public declaration in the lobby, and Vincent's immediate executive suspension broke across business news outlets and social media platforms:
CHICAGO TRIBUNE: "Moretti Global CEO Suspended Following Public Scandal and Secret Mansion Purchase for Assistant."
BLOOMBERG FINANCIAL: "Moretti Family Patriarch Strips Vincent Moretti of Voting Shares; Replaces Him with Board Trustees."
Under my personal direction as primary trustee of the Matteo Moretti Trust, my lead litigation attorney, Bridget Colton, executed an absolute legal blitzkrieg:
EVICTION & SEIZURE: The Federal District Court issued an emergency seizure order against the Lake Forest mansion, locking Sophia Reynolds and her daughter out of the property within forty-eight hours.
CRIMINAL EMBEZZLEMENT CHARGES: The Cook County State’s Attorney opened a formal investigation into Vincent and Sophia for corporate wire fraud and illegal conversion of trust funds.
DIVORCE PETITION: I filed for Absolute Divorce on grounds of Gross Infidelity, Financial Fraud, and Marital Abandonment, demanding sole legal and physical custody of Matteo, alongside full ownership of our downtown penthouse and the River Forest country estate.
Sophia Reynolds, stripped of her job, her three-hundred-thousand-dollar salary, and her stolen mansion, fled to a small rental apartment in outer Chicago, hounded by reporters and facing potential federal indictment.
Desperate, humiliated, and realizing that Vincent was now penniless without his family's approval, Sophia attempted to ambush me outside my pediatrician's clinic on a crisp Thursday morning.
As I stepped out toward my armored SUV, holding one-month-old Matteo securely in his carrier, flanked by two broad-shouldered private security guards, Sophia ran out from behind a parked car.
Her clothes were rumpled, her eyes bloodshot, her face contorted in a mask of manic, hysterical rage.
"CLAIRE!" Sophia shrieked, pointing a shaking finger at me. "YOU DESTROYED MY LIFE! YOU TOOK MY DAUGHTER'S HOME! VINCENT LOVED ME! HE NEVER LOVED YOU!"
I stopped two feet from my SUV. I didn't run. I didn't scream.
I turned around slowly, my dark cashmere coat sweeping around my knees, my hazel eyes looking down at her with a quiet, weightless coldness that froze the breath in her throat.
"Vincent didn't love you, Sophia," I spoke softly into the morning air. "He used you to feel powerful. And you used him to steal a life you didn't earn."
Bridget Colton stepped out from the vehicle behind me, holding a police report and a protection order.
"Miss Reynolds," Bridget announced flatly. "You are currently violating a civil restraining order. Officers are on their way."

Sophia backed away, weeping frantic, pathetic tears of terror as two uniformed Chicago police officers pulled up to the curb, placing her under arrest for Criminal Harassment and Trespassing.
She was dragged away in total disgrace, her name permanently erased from high-society circles.
