Chapter 3 - The Assembly at the Grand BallroomAt 10:00 AM the following morning, the grand mahogany assembly hall atop the forty-story Chicago Financial Center was packed to absolute capacity.

Over four hundred prominent real estate magnates, commercial shipping directors, municipal judges, and syndicate capos gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers for the annual Calloway Global Heritage Assembly.
Sitting at the head of the raised executive table, wearing a dark mink wrap and diamond jewelry, holding a silver pen, was sixty-two-year-old Evelyn Calloway. Beside her sat her corrupt corporate attorney, Richard Sterling-Smith, smirking as they prepared to sign papers to transfer the family’s maritime berths into an offshore shell.
"Gentlemen!" Evelyn announced into the central microphone, her voice dripping with condescending authority, "today we ratify the administrative restructuring of Calloway Global, permanently securing the legacy of my son Preston’s estate under my executive proxy—"
BOOM!
The heavy double oak doors of the executive assembly hall were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
The chatter of four hundred high-society guests vanished into an absolute, speech-bound silence.
Walking down the central red-carpeted aisle, flanked by Chief Security Director Marcus Vance and four armed federal marshals, was Don Preston Calloway.
I wore a dark bespoke charcoal suit, my broad six-foot-four frame squared, radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to absolute zero.
And walking right beside me, wearing a breathtaking floor-length dark emerald silk suit that celebrated her graceful figure, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders, holding our four-year-old twin sons Theo and Eli by their hands, was Donna Naomi Vance-Calloway.
Theo and Eli wore tiny dark blue velvet suits with matching silk ties, Theo holding his planetary drawing notebook, Eli raising his left eyebrow with proud, curious eyes as he looked around the grand hall.
Evelyn Calloway dropped her silver pen.
CRASH!
The heavy metal pen clattered flat against the mahogany table, rolling onto the floor as her face went from arrogant red to an ugly, paper-white shade of green. Richard Sterling-Smith stood up so fast he knocked his leather chair backward against the wall.
"E-EVELYN...?! PRESTON?! NAOMI?!" Richard stammered, taking two panicked steps backward against the window. "WHAT IS THIS ILL-MANNERED INTERRUPTING?! SHE HAS NO STANDING HERE!"
"She has every standing, Richard," I announced flatly, my deep, clear baritone carrying cleanly across the silent hall, dropping the temperature to zero. "She is the Executive Chairwoman of the Calloway Family Trust... and the mother of my sole heirs."
Bridget Colton stepped forward, sliding a thick stack of court-stamped legal notices flat into Evelyn Calloway’s trembling hands:
TOTAL MARITIME RECOVERY: Certified federal enforcement of the Calloway Trust Deeds, transferring 100% controlling common equity directly to Chairwoman Naomi Vance-Calloway, Theo Calloway, and Eli Calloway.
ARREST WARRANTS: International arrest warrants served on Evelyn Calloway and Richard Sterling-Smith for Premeditated Extortion, Child Abduction Conspiracy, Forgery, Identity Concealment, and $120 Million Wire Fraud.
IMMEDIATE EVICTION & ASSET FREEZE: Total forfeiture of all personal properties, luxury vehicles, and bank accounts registered under Evelyn Calloway’s shell companies.
"THIS IS UNLAWFUL!" Evelyn shrieked, thrashing wildly as two uniformed federal marshals stepped forward with heavy steel handcuffs. "PRESTON, I AM YOUR MOTHER! I SAVED YOU FROM A PENNILESS TEACHER!"
"You didn't save me, Mother," I corrected deadpan, stepping beside Naomi, Theo, and Eli, wrapping my broad, warm arm securely around Naomi's waist, pulling her frame flush against my solid side. "You stole five years of my sons' lives. And today, your empire ends."
