Chapter 4 - The Lion’s DenThe sound of David Lancaster’s voice sliced through the serene luxury of the mansion like a rusty blade.

I gasped, my body instinctively stiffening as panic seized my throat. "How... how did he find me? Chris, how is he here?"
Christopher stood up instantly, his entire demeanor changing in a fraction of a second. The gentle, loving man who had just kissed me vanished, replaced by an apex predator whose territory had been invaded.
"Harrison," Chris called out calmly into his smartwatch.
"Already on it, Mr. Turner," his security chief’s voice came through the speaker. "Mr. Lancaster tracked Mrs. Reed’s cab driver from the airport by bribing the dispatch company in Toronto. He’s standing on the front steps with two private investigators. My team has already intercepted them at the perimeter."
I scrambled off the couch, my hands shaking uncontrollably as I ran toward the staircase. "Olivia... I need to get Olivia—"
"Maria is already with her in the panic suite upstairs, Maya," Chris said, turning to me and grabbing my hands gently. "Listen to me. You stay here. You don't have to face him."
"No!" I said, looking into his eyes, terror mixing with a sudden spike of protective rage. "He’s doing this because he thinks he owns me! He thinks he can scare me into handing over my rights to Olivia! If I hide, he wins!"
Chris studied my face for two seconds. He saw the shift in my eyes—the resurrection of the fearless girl he had grown up with.
A slow, dark smile touched his lips. "All right. Then let's go end this."
We walked down the grand marble hallway together. Chris signaled to the security team, and the massive front doors were opened.
Standing on the immaculate stone porch, flanked by two burly men in cheap suits, was David Lancaster.
He was fifty years old, dressed in an expensive camel coat, his dark hair slicked back. He was used to commanding boardrooms and browbeating city inspectors. But standing in front of Christopher Turner’s multi-acre Pacific Heights fortress, surrounded by six armed, elite private security operators, David looked distinctly out of his depth.
When David saw me step out beside Christopher, his eyes flared with arrogant anger.
"Maya!" David barked, taking a step forward before two security guards crossed their arms, blocking him completely. "What the hell is the meaning of this? You took my daughter and fled the country! I’ve been looking for you for thirty-six hours!"
"Your daughter?" I said, my voice echoing across the courtyard, steady and surprisingly clear. "You told me six months ago that she was a mistake. You offered me fifty thousand dollars to terminate the pregnancy, David. And when I refused, you threatened to ruin my teaching license!"
David’s face flushed red. He quickly adjusted his coat, trying to look composed for the security guards' body cameras.
"I was stressed, Maya! We had a disagreement!" David snapped, pointing a finger at me. "You are unstable! You brought a six-month-old infant to a stranger’s house in San Francisco! I have rights as her father, and I am not leaving California without establishing custody!"
Christopher stepped forward. He didn't raise his voice. He didn't posture. He simply stood at the top of the stone steps, looking down at David as if he were a bug on his shoe.
"First of all, Lancaster," Chris said, his voice terrifyingly calm, "I am not a stranger. I am Christopher Turner. And this house is protected by private security that has full legal authority to remove you for felony trespass."
David sneered, trying to play tough. "I don't care who you are, tech boy. Money doesn't override family court. I have lawyers—"
"You had lawyers," Chris interrupted, pulling his phone from his pocket and checking the time. "It’s 2:15 p.m. in Toronto right now. Exactly fifteen minutes ago, my legal firm served your partners with a formal notice of emergency injunction regarding your firm's commercial fraud in the Ontario West Development deal."

David froze. The color instantly drained from his face. "What... what did you say?"
"I bought your firm's primary debt notes from Royal Bank two hours ago, David," Chris continued, taking one slow step down the stairs. "I am now your primary creditor. And as of ten minutes ago, I called in the entire forty-million-dollar loan balance due immediately."
