Chapter 6 - The Festival of the Emerald OrchidIn late September 2026, ten months after that terrifying night in the east wing, the grand auditorium of the Plaza Hotel in Buffalo was packed to absolute capacity for the inaugural Julia Mancuso Heritage & Medical Integrity Gala.

Over five hundred prominent business leaders, supreme court justices, federal prosecutors, and high-society matriarchs gathered beneath sparkling crystal chandeliers.
Standing at the main presentation podium, wearing a dark bespoke tuxedo, my broad six-foot-four frame squared, my handsome face glowing with deep, quiet pride, was me.
Beside me stood Donna Julia Mancuso, looking breathtaking in a floor-length dark emerald silk evening gown, her cheeks flushed with healthy, radiant life, her hazel eyes glowing with happiness.
Around Julia’s neck hung my late mother’s restored gold signet pendant.
I adjusted the microphone, my deep, resonant baritone echoing cleanly through the high-fidelity speakers:
"Ten months ago, my arrogance almost cost me the greatest gift of my life," I announced to the silent room, my gray eyes shining with genuine, unshakeable emotion. "And on that night, the bravest woman in Buffalo showed me that true love doesn't just survive the fire... it runs into the fire to save your life."
I held my champagne glass high under the glittering lights.

"To my Chairwoman, my savior, and the queen of my heart: Donna Julia Mancuso!"
"To Julia!" the entire room erupted into a warm, unanimous standing ovation, five hundred crystal glasses clinking together under the open sky.
