Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Lost VowsBy 2:00 AM, the executive command suite at The Mancuso Tower overlooking Lake Erie was operating under an impenetrable, non-negotiable tactical lockdown.

Outside the private elevator banks, twenty armed Vance Security operators in dark suits guarded every corridor. Inside, Julia rested in a plush private medical suite, monitored by Dr. Aris Thorne and an elite respiratory team I had flown in from Johns Hopkins.

In the central executive study, sitting around a black granite conference table, were me, Marcus Vance, and Senior Corporate Prosecutor Bridget Colton.

Bridget opened three heavy, red-sealed leather binders, sliding digital ledgers and wiretap transcripts flat onto the table before me:

"Adriano, Julia," Bridget spoke crisp and fast, her sharp blue eyes holding surgical professional fury. "The forensic audit into Pietro Rossi’s private accounts and the Dock Street sabotage is complete."

I leaned over the table, my hands planted flat on the polished granite, my gray eyes burning with an apocalyptic, predatory fire. "Explain it."

Bridget tapped the digital displays:

THE SABOTAGE & ARSON DOSSIER: High-definition 4K footage recovered from the erased server at the Dock Street warehouse showing Julia Mancuso triggering the emergency alarm at 2:14 A.M., while Pietro’s mercenaries locked the primary exit doors behind her.

THE HOMICIDE & WIRE FRAUD LOGS: Intercepted wiretaps capturing Pietro Rossi communicating five months ago with rival syndicate Don Victor Vane—proving Pietro planned to take over the Mancuso Freight Trust upon Adriano's death.

THE EMBEZZLEMENT LOG: Proof that Pietro Rossi systematically diverted $110 million from the Mancuso Maritime Trust into Panamanian shell accounts over four years, using Julia's medical visits as a distraction.

My breath stopped in my chest.

My knuckles turned stark white against the granite counter.

For five months, I had allowed myself to grow cold toward Julia, believing she had abandoned our marriage, while the snake sitting at my left table had not only attempted my assassination but had systematically poisoned her reputation to cover his theft of my maritime trust.

"Where is Pietro tonight, Marcus?" I asked softly, my voice dropping into a register of absolute, deathly resolve.

"He's being held in the lower tactical suite, boss," Marcus Vance reported flatly. "Rival Don Victor Vane is currently waiting at the Buffalo Industrial Docks for Pietro's signal to initiate a proxy takeover."

I slowly stood up, smoothing the front of my dark bespoke charcoal suit jacket.

"Order the convoy, Marcus," I commanded ice-cold. "Tonight, my wife and I tear Pietro Rossi's world to the ground."
