Chapter 4 - The Unseen Eleven PagesBy 4:00 PM that afternoon, the private VIP suite on the top floor of the Ritz-Carlton Manhattan was quiet, bathed in the soft, golden sunset reflecting off the Hudson River.

I stood near the entrance doors, my hands flat at my sides, refusing to take a single step forward without Grace's permission. I felt smaller than dust before the woman who had built my life.

Grace sat in a high-backed velvet armchair by the window, wearing a simple cream cashmere cardigan over her dark emerald dress, her hands resting gently over her rounded seven-month pregnant stomach. Her dark hair was pinned back, her hazel eyes holding an unshakeable, sovereign dignity.

"You read the eleven pages, Richard," Grace spoke softly, her voice smooth as silk and cold as winter ice.

"I read every word, Grace," I choked out, a raw sob breaking through my chest as I fell flat onto my knees right on the plush carpet near the door. "I read how you sat alone in hotel rooms... how you waited for me on our anniversary... how you bled in that hospital while I ignored your calls..."

Tears spilled over my lashes, soaking into the carpet as I buried my face in my hands, weeping tears of pure, devastating, weightless self-hatred.

"I didn't leave you because of Vanessa, Richard," Grace revealed gently, looking out at the golden sunset over the river. "Vanessa was just the symptom of a man who forgot his own soul. I left because I promised myself sixteen years ago that I would never raise a daughter in a home where her mother was treated as invisible."

"Grace... please," I wept, my voice cracking into shards. "Take the company... take every dollar... take the estates... just let me be a father to our daughter... let me earn back one second of your grace..."

Grace looked down at me—the feared billionaire Don of the East Coast, kneeling on the floor, weeping for a second chance—and her hazel eyes held a clear, quiet finality.

"The company is already mine, Richard," Grace said softly, reaching out her hand to gently touch the top of my head one last time. "And you can be her father... but you will never again be my husband."
