Chapter 2 - The Audit of the Lost CrownBy 3:00 AM, the Manhattan skyline was shrouded in a heavy, freezing fog.

Inside the high-security executive conference suite on the forty-fifth floor of the Hayes Tower, the quiet was absolute. Outside, armored Escalades patrolled the surrounding blocks, while forty elite Vance Security operatives guarded every exit.
I sat in a high-backed velvet armchair, my shirt unbuttoned at the collar, my dark hair disheveled, holding a cold cup of untouched coffee.
Sitting across the granite table was Bridget Colton, senior managing partner of Colton & Vance International and Grace’s personal legal representative. Beside her sat Dr. Rebecca Hayes, the head of emergency maternal medicine at Saint Jude’s.
Bridget opened a heavy, red-sealed leather binder, sliding high-definition digital ledgers and medical files flat onto the table toward me.
"Richard," Bridget spoke softly, her sharp blue eyes holding profound professional fury. "The truth about what happened to Grace on September 14th is far worse than a simple miscarriage."
My stomach dropped into an icy void. "Tell me, Bridget."
Dr. Rebecca Hayes pulled up a digital brain-wave and cardiac schematic on the main wall monitor:
THE INDUCED POISONING: Forensic toxicology reports proving Vanessa Blake paid a rogue hospital nurse to inject Grace’s IV line with a synthetic hormone inhibitor, intentionally inducing severe internal hemorrhaging to destroy the pregnancy.
THE SURVIVAL OF THE HEIR: Medical records proving that while Grace lost one twin, the secondary embryonic sac survived. Grace is currently seven months pregnant with a healthy baby girl.
THE BENNETT MARITIME TRUST: Original corporate deeds proving Grace Bennett holds fifty-one percent controlling common stock equity over the East Coast Commercial Docks—assets her father placed in her maiden name thirty years ago.
Tears of hot, bitter rage and overwhelming shock burned behind my eyelids. "My daughter... Grace is carrying my daughter...?"
"She was carrying your daughter when she walked out of your penthouse four days ago, Richard," Bridget revealed coldly. "And she executed her grandfather's maritime trust options forty-eight hours ago. As of eight o'clock this morning, you have lost operational control over your fleet, your deep-water berths, and your primary logistics terminals."
I looked at the documents, my broad frame shaking with a quiet, devastating realization.
Grace hadn't just run away as a heartbroken victim.
She had quietly, brilliant, and systematically stripped me of my corporate power, protected our surviving child, and walked away from a sixteen-year marriage that I had polluted with my own arrogance.
"Where is she, Bridget?" I begged, my voice cracking into a raw, groveling rasp. "Please... just tell me she’s safe."

Bridget locked her eyes onto mine with a clean, weightless severity.
"She is in a place where your money, your guns, and your mistress can never touch her again," Bridget stated flatly. "And tomorrow morning, she takes your empire."
