Chapter 7 - Unbroken and Forever HomeAt 8:30 PM, as the spring sun dipped below the Boston skyline, painting the sky in brilliant shades of rose, gold, and deep sapphire, the private terrace was illuminated by dozens of soft, twinkling fairy lights.

My mother sat at the primary family table in her comfortable armchair, holding Mrs. Gable's hand, laughing happily as she watched the guests dance near the stone hearth.

Leo stepped up to our table carrying a silver tray holding two crystal glasses of vintage champagne.

"For Don Lorenzo and Donna Isabella Benedetti," Leo smiled warmly, offering a respectful bow before stepping back into the house.

Lorenzo picked up the crystal glasses, handing one to me, clinking his glass gently against mine under the warm evening sky.

"To the nurse who healed my family," Lorenzo toasted softly, his storm-gray eyes fixed entirely on my face.

"To the man who gave me my freedom," I smiled back, taking a slow sip of the rich, sweet champagne.

Lorenzo wrapped his broad arm securely around my waist, pulling me tight against his solid frame, as we watched the moon rise over the quiet waters of the bay.

There were no corrupt police officers lurking in dark alleys. There were no forty-dollar shortages threatening my mother's care. There were no tears swallowed in wet scrubs.

The terrified, exhausted nurse was dead forever. The sovereign matriarch had claimed her throne.

And standing under the vast, unbroken sky, wrapped in the arms of the man who loved every inch of my soul, holding my head high, I knew that my life, my heart, and my future were finally, beautifully, and forever home.
