Chapter 5 - The Gift of SpringOn a warm, clear Saturday afternoon in mid-April 2026, the sun painted the sweeping lawns of our East Hampton estate in brilliant shades of gold, rose, and deep sapphire.

Clara sat on the grand marble terrace wearing an exquisite floor-length ivory silk dress, her dark hair falling in glossy waves over her shoulders. Her face was radiant, her hazel eyes shining with a deep, weightless joy that had completely erased the dark shadows of her past.
Standing beside her chair was Dr. Rebecca Sullivan—the top obstetrician in the state—holding an ultrasound display monitor.
I stood behind Clara, my broad hands resting gently over her shoulders, my eyes fixed on the screen.
"Heartbeat is strong and steady, Don Adrian," Dr. Sullivan smiled warmly, turning the screen toward us. "Seventeen weeks. Perfect development."
On the monitor, a tiny, clear silhouette moved gently, a rhythmic, rapid beating sound echoing through the quiet terrace—the unmistakable, miraculous sound of a healthy baby's heartbeat.
Clara let out a soft, breathless laugh, tears of pure, unadulterated happiness spilling over her lashes as she reached up to cover my hand with hers.

"We did it, Adrian," Clara whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "Our baby is safe."
I lowered my head, pressing my lips gently against her temple, my deep baritone thick with a husband’s profound, eternal reverence. "Our baby will always be safe, my love. I built a fortress around your heart."
