Chapter 3 - The Gathering at the ManorAt 6:00 a.m. the following morning, the grand gates of the Sterling Estate in Greenwich, Connecticut, were thrown open under the dim grey light of dawn.

The fifty-million-dollar limestone mansion—a symbol of Richard Sterling’s arrogant, autocratic reign over his family—was surrounded by ten black SUVs and four unmarked federal vehicles.

Inside the grand ballroom, Richard Sterling and his eight sons sat bound in heavy steel handcuffs around the long mahogany dining table. They were stripped of their designer suits, their phones confiscated, their private security guards disarmed and held in the courtyard below.

The double oak doors opened, and I walked into the room wearing a tailored charcoal suit, flanked by Marcus, Sal, and Lead Prosecutor Rachel Hayes from the United States Attorney’s Office.

Richard lifted his head, his face gaunt, bloodshot eyes fixed on me with a desperate, groveling terror.

"Adrian... please," Richard wept, his voice cracking into a high, pathetic squeak. "We're family! Clara is my blood! You can't do this to us! Take the money! Take the land! Just drop the criminal charges!"

I walked slowly down the length of the dining table, stopping at the head seat—the chair where Richard had sat for forty years dictating his family's cruel law.

I sat down, crossing one leg over the other, looking at the nine men who had beaten my pregnant wife.

"Family?" I repeated, my baritone dropping into a quiet, chilling register. "When Clara was lying on the cold floor of her studio, begging you to stop, did you think about family? When you hit her ribs until our child stopped breathing, did you think about blood?"

Julian Sterling thrashed in his chains, screaming hysterically, "It was Father’s idea! He told us she was betraying the family by staying married to you! He told us to make her comply!"

"Shut up, Julian!" Richard shrieked, turning on his eldest son.

"You are all cowards," I declared flatly, cutting through their pathetic squabbling.

Prosecutor Rachel Hayes stepped forward, setting a stack of certified federal indictments onto the table.

"Richard Sterling and sons," Prosecutor Hayes announced, her voice echoing cleanly off the high ceilings. "You are hereby charged with First-Degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Aggravated Assault, Feticide, Wire Fraud, and Systemic Extortion. Due to the overwhelming forensic evidence and Dr. Harrison’s confession, bail has been denied by the Federal District Judge."

Two dozen federal marshals stepped into the room, hoisting the nine men to their feet.

Richard looked at me one final time, tears streaming down his face as he realized his empire, his status, and his freedom were gone forever. "What are you...?" he whimpered.

"I am the man who loved your daughter enough to give her a quiet life," I answered softly, turning my back on him. "And the Don who destroyed you when you took it away."
