Chapter 2 - The Audit of the BloodlineBy 2:00 a.m., the fourth-floor ICU wing of St. Jude's Hospital had been transformed into a fortress of absolute, unyielding security.

Federal agents, private forensic investigators, and my top syndicate operators occupied the main lobby. Dr. Harrison had been dragged into a private conference room by my legal team, where he signed a full, video-recorded confession detailing twenty-four months of medical malpractice, bribery, and conspiracy orchestrated by the Sterling family.

Inside the ICU room, the quiet hum of the heart monitor was the only sound breaking the silence.

I sat in the velvet armchair beside Clara’s bed, holding her cold, fragile right hand in both of my calloused palms. Her left hand rested gently over her abdomen—over the tiny life we had planned for, prayed for, and loved before it was taken from us by nine monsters driven by greed.

Her eyes flickered open slowly, hazel irises cloudy from pain medication.

"Adrian...?" she whispered, her voice a raspy, broken thread.

"I'm right here, my love," I murmured, leaning down to press a tender, lingering kiss against her knuckles. Tears pricked the corners of my eyes, but I forced my posture tall and steady. "You're safe. Nobody is ever going to touch you again."

Clara’s eyes filled with tears, a single drop tracking down her bruised cheekbone. "The... the baby... Adrian, they..."

"I know, sweetheart," I whispered, my chest physically aching as I stroked her hair. "I know. Rest now. I am taking care of everything."

Clara looked into my eyes, sensing the sudden, terrifying shift in my aura—a cold, absolute authority she had never seen during our six years of quiet domestic life. "Adrian... who are those men outside?"

"They are my people, Clara," I answered softly, hiding nothing from her any longer. "For six years, I kept my true world away from you because I wanted our home to be filled with light. But tonight, that world is going to protect you."

Just then, my lead legal counsel, Bridget Colton, stepped quietly into the room holding a thick leather dossier bound by red judicial seals.

"Don Adrian," Bridget spoke softly, bowing her head with profound respect. "The emergency asset seizure and federal indictments against Richard Sterling and his eight sons have been finalized by the District Court."

Clara’s eyes widened slightly as she heard the title—Don Adrian.

"Report, Bridget," I commanded flatly.

"Under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act," Bridget revealed, "every asset, property, and financial ledger belonging to Sterling Enterprises has been seized to satisfy a fifty-million-dollar emergency civil restitution judgment filed on behalf of Clara Vance. Furthermore, federal arrest warrants have been issued for all nine men for Attempted Murder, Conspiracy, and Systemic Extortion."

Clara stared at me in absolute shock. "You... you dismantled my father's entire company... in two hours?"

I squeezed her hand gently, my gray eyes locking onto hers with unbroken devotion. "I didn't just dismantle his company, Clara. I erased his lineage."
