Chapter 6 - The Ultimate ConfrontationThursday morning arrived with the grey, biting chill of a late autumn storm rolling off Lake Michigan.

By 9:00 AM, the primary auditorium at Northstar Technologies was packed to absolute capacity. Shareholders, board members, investigative reporters, and federal regulators filled the tiered velvet seats. At the center table sat Victor Vance of Sterling Global, flanked by a battery of high-priced corporate attorneys, wearing the smug, self-satisfied smirk of a man who believed he had already won.
When the heavy mahogany doors at the back of the auditorium opened, a hush fell over the room.
Nathan walked in first, dressed in a sharp charcoal suit, his expression carved from granite. But it was who walked beside him that caused a wave of whispers to ripple through the crowd.
Me.
I wore a tailored navy blazer, my head held high, my posture steady and unyielding. I wasn't hiding behind a computer screen anymore. I was standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the most powerful CEO in the city, carrying the definitive proof of corporate corruption on a secure flash drive in my pocket.
Victor Vance stood up, adjusting his lapels with exaggerated condescension. “Mr. Carter, how charming of you to bring your... junior analyst to our emergency meeting. I assume you’re here to tender your resignation and hand over the distressed assets after the catastrophic mismanagement exposed by our recent press reports?”
Nathan didn't even flinch. He walked straight to the podium, plugged a secure encrypted drive into the central console, and calmly pressed a button.
Instantly, the massive projector screen behind the stage flickered to life.
Instead of stock charts or financial summaries, the screen displayed a detailed, unredacted money-laundering ledger linking Sterling Global’s offshore accounts directly to Victor Vance’s personal holdings—complete with time-stamped digital signatures, intercepted wire transfers, and audio recordings of Vance conspiring to manufacture fake smear campaigns against Northstar employees.
The color drained entirely from Victor Vance’s face. His smirk shattered into absolute horror.
“That... that is fabricated!” Vance shouted, slamming his hands onto the table and lunging toward the stage. “Illegal wiretaps! Unverified tampering by an unstable employee!”
“Actually, Mr. Vance,” a deep, authoritative voice echoed from the aisle as Detective Vance stepped forward with three federal marshals in tow, displaying an official federal warrant. “Those are certified bank records secured via federal subpoena, corroborated by digital forensic audits and live whistleblower testimony.”
The federal marshals flanked Vance’s table, their silver cuffs glinting beneath the auditorium lights.
“Victor Vance, you are under arrest for corporate fraud, wiretapping, and conspiracy,” Detective Vance announced, the metallic click of handcuffs echoing clearly through the silent auditorium.
As Vance was hauled away in absolute disgrace, screaming empty threats over his shoulder, the board members in the audience sat paralyzed, before a slow, respectful wave of applause began to ripple through the rows.
Nathan turned away from the podium, ignoring the cameras flashing from the press gallery, and walked straight back toward me.
He didn't care about the shareholders, the media, or the hostile takeover. He stopped right in front of me, a brilliant, genuine smile breaking across his face.

“We won,” he whispered.
“We did,” I smiled back, feeling a profound, unshakable peace settle deep into my bones.
