Chapter 2 - The Public Execution of David’s PrideThe silence across the hotel courtyard was suffocating.

Photographers from local society journals, whom David had hired to document his "triumphant marriage into wealth," immediately turned their cameras away from the altar, directing their high-powered lenses straight toward Emily and the triplets.
FLASH! FLASH! FLASH!
David’s face flushed a deep, mottled crimson. He stepped up to Emily, his voice pitching upward into a sharp, hysterical whisper. "Get them out of here! I invited you so you could see what real success looks like, not so you could bring three random kids from a daycare to ruin my wedding day!"
Emily didn't step back. She didn't raise her voice. She simply looked down at him from the top of her heel height, her hazel eyes cold as glacier ice.
"They aren't random kids from a daycare, David," Emily spoke, her baritone carried clearly by the courtyard acoustics, reaching the ears of Olivia’s wealthy parents sitting in the front row. "These are Leo, Maya, and Toby. My triplets. Born four years ago... seven months after you handed me divorce papers in an alley."
A collective, horrified gasp rippled through the two hundred guests.
Olivia’s father, Arthur Hale—a senior partner at the city’s largest commercial investment firm—stood up abruptly, his face contorting into rage as he stared at David. "David! What is the meaning of this?! You told us your ex-wife was a childless, incompetent parasite who refused to work!"
"She was! She is!" David stammered, sweat breaking out along his temples in thick streams as he pointed a trembling finger at Emily. "She’s lying! She’s trying to extort my new family! She ran a failing, bankrupt design shop downtown!"
"My boutique isn't failing, David," Emily replied smoothly, stepping past him toward the main terrace.
Marcus Vance stepped forward, opening a thick leather portfolio bound by gold seals, projecting high-definition corporate files onto the hotel’s large promotional screens that had been set up for David’s wedding video:
THE DESIGN EMPIRE: Official State Registry certificates showing Emily Brooks as the sole founder and hundred percent owner of Brooks Global Luxury Design—a firm that had recently secured a forty-million-dollar commercial contract to redesign the city’s landmark harbor district.
THE FINANCIAL AUDIT: Certified bank records showing David’s corporate logistics firm operating on a two-million-dollar high-interest loan provided by... Brooks Global.
THE PATERNITY CERTIFICATES: Certified DNA reports filed with the State Supreme Court confirming David as the biological father of Leo, Maya, and Toby Brooks.
Olivia let out a sharp, hysterical shriek, pulling her hand away from David’s arm as if he were covered in venom. "YOU OWE HER MONEY?! YOUR COMPANY IS IN DEBT TO YOUR EX-WIFE?!"
David thrashed forward, grabbing Emily’s arm in pure, catatonic terror. "Emily, stop this! Please! I’m begging you! If Arthur pulls his investment, my company goes under by Monday!"
Marcus Vance reached out with lightning speed, catching David’s wrist with an iron grip, twisting it back until David dropped to his knees on the red carpet, gasping in pain.
"Do not touch Donna Emily," Marcus warned coldly.

Emily looked down at her ex-husband kneeling on the floor, weeping in his three-thousand-dollar tuxedo, and felt nothing but a quiet, weightless indifference.
"You invited me here to watch me suffer, David," Emily whispered softly, looking into his bloodshot eyes. "I came to show you what happens when you throw away gold to chase brass."
