Chapter 1 - The Limo at the StepsThe low, purring hum of a long, midnight-black stretch limousine vibrated off the cobblestones in front of the Grand Plaza Hotel, drawing every eye away from the bride’s glittering diamond necklace. The sheer, mirror-like polish of the luxury vehicle reflected the towering white-rose floral arches, making the lavish decorations look suddenly cheap by comparison.

David’s smug, practiced smile faltered for a fraction of a second. His hand, resting casually around Olivia’s slender waist, tightened slightly. He glanced toward the entrance driveway, expecting perhaps a local politician, a late-arriving tech investor, or one of Olivia’s eccentric millionaire uncles from New York.
"Who is that?" Olivia murmured, adjusting her long veil with manicured fingers, a tiny crease of irritation forming between her brows. "David, did your father rent an extra escort vehicle for the press?"
"No," David replied, smoothing the lapels of his three-thousand-dollar tailored tuxedo. He forced his charming, confident grin back into place. "Probably just one of the board members showing off."
The valet stepped forward, bowing respectfully as he opened the heavy, gold-trimmed rear door of the limousine.
First out stepped a broad-shouldered man in a immaculate charcoal suit—Marcus Vance, a well-known chief security director for high-net-worth executives across the state. He didn't look like a driver; he looked like an enforcer guarding royalty. Marcus held out a white-gloved hand toward the interior.
A slender, elegant leg dressed in a sheer silk stocking stepped onto the red carpet, followed by the hem of an breathtaking, custom-tailored dark emerald silk gown.
David’s breath hitched in his throat.
The woman who stepped out of the vehicle did not look like the exhausted, pale girl he had kicked out of his Lake Forest apartment four years ago. She stood tall, her posture sovereign, proud, and completely unbothered by the staring crowd. Her dark hair fell in glossy, Hollywood waves over her shoulders, and her hazel eyes shone with absolute, unshakeable clarity. Down on her right hand rested a simple, magnificent ten-carat emerald signet ring.
It was Emily.
David’s jaw sagged open. The champagne glass in his left hand tilted dangerously, spilling a few drops of vintage Dom Pérignon onto his polished leather shoes. "E... Emily?!"
Before David could process the sight of his ex-wife wearing a dress that cost more than his entire wedding venue budget, Marcus Vance leaned back into the limousine, extending both hands to assist three small figures stepping out onto the carpet.
Three four-year-old children—two boys and a girl—stepped down beside Emily.
The boys wore matching navy velvet mini-tuxedos with crisp white bow ties, while the little girl wore a breathtaking white silk dress with a small emerald ribbon tied at the waist. All three children possessed striking, intelligent gray-hazel eyes, sharp jawlines, and thick dark curls—an undeniable, breathtaking combination of raw elegance and familiar heritage.
"Mommy," four-year-old Leo whispered, looking up at the towering white roses with a polite, curious expression. "Is this the party where the mean man invited us?"
"Yes, sweetie," Emily answered softly, her clear, velvet voice echoing cleanly off the hotel steps as the surrounding two hundred wealthy guests dropped into a stunned, speech-bound silence. "This is the party."

David thrashed his hands frantically, taking three panicked steps down the stairs. "WHAT IS THIS?! Emily! What kind of sick joke is this?! Who gave you the money to rent a limousine?!"
Olivia’s face turned an ugly shade of paper-white as her eyes darted from Emily’s emerald dress to the three identical children standing beside her. "David... who are these kids? Why do they look like you?"
