Chapter 5 - The Malibu MirageWhile the corporate offices of Mercer Technologies were being systematically dismantled in Manhattan, the fallout was hitting the sunny shores of Malibu like a tidal wave.

Sabrina Vale lounged on the white-sand terrace of her cliffside Malibu mansion, wearing designer oversized sunglasses and sipping a glass of iced green tea. Her phone buzzed continuously on the glass table, flashing with alerts from her publicist, her agent, and entertainment blogs.
“Malibu Actress Sabrina Vale Faces Financial Backlash Amid Mercer Tech Scandal.”
“Luxury Properties Tied to Mercer Executive Seized by Creditors.”
“Where is Sabrina Vale? Mystery Surrounds Embattled Starlet.”
Sabrina frowned, lifting her sunglasses. She tapped her screen to open a video clip from a morning financial news broadcast. The anchor was discussing the sudden collapse of Mercer Technologies and the freezing of all offshore shell accounts linked to its executive board.
“Ridiculous,” Sabrina muttered to herself, tossing the phone aside. She reached for her tablet to check her personal investment portfolio—the luxury condo in West Hollywood that Ethan had bought her, the sports car parked in the driveway, the high-yield trust fund he had promised would secure her lifestyle for the next decade.
She tapped her banking app.
Account Balance: $0.00.
Status: Frozen by Court Order.
Sabrina gasped, sitting upright so fast her tea spilled across the glass table. She tried refreshing the app. Nothing changed. She tapped her credit card app—Declined. She tried calling Ethan’s cell phone.
“The subscriber you have dialed is currently unavailable or out of service.”
Panic seized her chest. She leaped out of her lounge chair, running inside the mansion just as the front door downstairs rattled violently.
Before she could reach the top of the marble staircase, two uniformed federal marshals, accompanied by a court-appointed receiver, marched into the grand foyer.
“Miss Sabrina Vale?” the lead marshal called out, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings.
“What is this?!” Sabrina shrieked, running down the stairs, her silk robe billowing behind her. “Who do you think you are?! Do you know who I am?! I demand to speak to my attorney!”
“You are currently occupying a residence purchased with embezzled corporate funds under active federal investigation,” the marshal replied coldly, holding out a thick stack of legal papers. “You have two hours to vacate the premises, surrender all luxury vehicles, and hand over any gifts or assets purchased with Mercer Technologies capital. Everything here now belongs to the court-appointed receivership administered by Vesta Holdings.”

Sabrina stared at the papers, her face turning pale as chalk. The glamorous Hollywood lifestyle, the red-carpet events, the wealthy tech mogul who promised her the world—it had all evaporated into thin air in less than forty-eight hours.
She wasn't a glamorous actress enjoying a high-society romance; she was a footnote in a massive corporate fraud case, abandoned by the man who had used her just as carelessly as he had used his wife.
