Chapter 5 - The Sovereign MistressSix months after the morning at the Meridian, the warm autumn sun broke peacefully over the soaring stone terraces of the Romano estate in Lake Forest.

The war with the Kensington family was finished with absolute, crushing finality.

Marcus Kensington was sentenced to forty-five years in a federal maximum-security penitentiary without the possibility of parole, while Sloan Kensington and her immediate trust assets were permanently exiled from New England after being stripped of their corporate holdings.

Meanwhile, my life with Gabriel transformed into a radiant, sunlit reality.

I no longer sat behind a small desk in the reception foyer, answering phones or taking coffee orders for arrogant men. I served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Clara & Gabriel Trust—a hundred-million-dollar foundation dedicated to providing legal protection, medical care, and housing support for vulnerable women across the Midwest.

My physical injuries were completely healed. The faint silver scars across my wrists were covered by a custom platinum bracelet engraved with the words: MY SOUL, MY PROTECTOR.

On a warm, clear Saturday afternoon in late October, the wide oceanfront terrace of our estate was decorated with blooming white orchids, yellow sunflowers, and sunlit champagne for our official wedding celebration.

Over three hundred prominent business leaders, legal directors, family captains, and close friends gathered around white-linen tables set up along the stone patio, enjoying fine food and live acoustic music.

I stood near the marble balustrade wearing a breathtaking, floor-length ivory silk wedding gown designed to celebrate every curve of my frame. My dark hair fell in glossy waves over my shoulders, my hazel eyes shining with absolute, unshakeable happiness.

Down on my left hand rested a seven-carat flawless emerald-cut diamond engagement ring set beside the Romano signet band.

Gabriel walked out onto the terrace wearing an immaculate black tuxedo, stepping up behind me, wrapping his broad, warm arms around my waist, pulling my back flush against his solid chest.

He pressed a sweet, lingering kiss against my temple, his storm-gray eyes shining with an absolute, unshakeable devotion.

"What are you thinking about, my queen?" Gabriel whispered softly into my ear.

I looked out over the vast, sparkling blue waters of Lake Michigan stretching before us into the unbroken horizon, feeling a deep, weightless peace settle into every corner of my soul.

"I was thinking about the freezing concrete floor," I answered softly, turning in his arms to rest my hands against his broad chest. "When I thought you were coming to execute me."

Gabriel offered a rare, breathtaking smile—a look of pure, eternal love that lit up his severe features.

"I walked into that room looking for a traitor, Clara," Gabriel promised, leaning down to press his lips softly, fiercely against mine in a deep, unhurried kiss. "And I found the woman who saved my life."
