Chapter 4 - The Confrontation at the TowerThe downtown headquarters of Rowan Enterprises looked like a gleaming monolith of glass and steel against the crisp winter sky. This time, I wasn't dropping off lunch or sneaking away in fear. I sat in the passenger seat of Declan’s Aston Martin as it slid into the private underground parking garage, James resting safely in his car seat in the back, monitored by two of Declan’s most trusted security specialists.

As we rode the private elevator up to the executive suite, Declan’s hand rested protectively at the small of my back. The tension in the air was palpable.
When the elevator doors slid open on the executive floor, Marcus Vance was standing near the reception desk, flanked by two junior attorneys and looking thoroughly rattled. He had clearly come to salvage whatever corporate standing he had left, unaware that Declan was already waiting for him.
Marcus stopped dead when he saw us step out. His eyes darted from Declan’s cold, furious face to mine, and for a split second, the charming, manipulative mask slipped, revealing a cornered panic.
"Declan," Marcus stammered, smoothing down his silk tie. "Thank God. The board is in a frenzy over these federal leaks. We need to issue a joint statement—"
"Save your breath, Marcus," Declan interrupted, his voice cutting through the open-plan floor like a razor blade. He walked forward until he stood towering over Marcus, who instinctively took a step back. "The forensic audit is complete. We found the fabricated custody file you planted on my desk fourteen months ago. We found the wire transfers you routed through shell companies to mimic Rowan corporate stationery."
Marcus’s face drained of color. "That’s—that’s absurd. It was a standard strategic risk assessment—"
"It was corporate forgery and malicious interference," Declan stated flatly, pulling a folded document from his jacket pocket and dropping it onto the reception desk. "Federal prosecutors already have the hard copies. Your assets have been frozen, your board seats revoked, and the warrants for your arrest are being processed as we speak."
May you like
Marcus lunged forward with a desperate, pathetic snarl, trying to grab Declan’s lapel, but before he could move an inch, Declan’s head of security stepped in, sweeping Marcus’s legs out from under him and pinning him neatly against the marble counter with effortless precision.
"Don't ever speak my name, don't look at my family, and don't ever think you can buy your way out of this," Declan said quietly, leaning down so Marcus could hear every single word. "You wanted a war with Rowan Enterprises? You just lost."
