Chapter 3 - Locked Out of ParadiseBy noon, Flynn’s private banking crisis had escalated from a minor humiliation to a full-scale catastrophe.

Desperate for answers, he abandoned Selena at the restaurant—leaving her to pay the bill with her own emergency credit card, much to her furious disbelief—and ordered a car to rush straight to his primary residence: the magnificent, four-thousand-square-foot Tribeca penthouse overlooking the Hudson River.

The penthouse was the crown jewel of his personal life, purchased for twelve million dollars, featuring floor-to-ceiling glass walls, imported Italian marble floors, and a private elevator opening directly into the foyer.

When the elevator doors chimed and slid open on the penthouse level, Flynn stepped out confidently, reaching into his pocket for his electronic key fob.

He pressed the button.

Instead of the welcoming green light and the soft click of the deadbolt, the wall panel flashed a harsh, angry crimson, and a synthesized voice announced: ACCESS DENIED. BIOMETRIC CREDENTIALS REVOKED.

“Revoked?” Flynn snarled, slamming his fist against the metal panel. “Are you kidding me?”

He pulled out his physical emergency key, shoved it into the brass lock beneath the keypad, and turned it hard. The lock didn't budge. The internal cylinders had been completely rekeyed.

“Open up!” Flynn shouted, banging his fists against the heavy oak-and-steel double doors. “Open this damn door right now! This is my home!”

The door clicked. Slowly, the left panel swung open inward.

Standing in the entryway wasn't Mabel, and it wasn't a maid. It was a tall, imposing man in a charcoal-gray suit with silver-rimmed glasses and a cold, emotionless expression—Marcus Vance, senior partner of the corporate security firm hired by Rachel Bennett.

“Dr. Vance,” Marcus said smoothly, blocking the threshold with his broad shoulders. “You are trespassing on private property.”

“Trespassing?!” Flynn roared, his face purple with rage as he tried to push past Marcus. “I own this building! My name is on the deed! Get out of my way before I have you arrested!”

Marcus didn't flinch an inch. He simply reached into his breast pocket, pulled out a thick legal document, and unfolded it right in front of Flynn’s face.

“As of 9:00 AM this morning, pursuant to Section 4 of the Mabel-Flynn Holding LLC dissolution agreement executed by primary stakeholder Mabel Grant-Vance, all residential properties tied to the marital estate have been placed into receivership,” Marcus recited in a flat, clinical tone. “You have been formally evicted. Your personal belongings are currently being packed into cardboard boxes and will be delivered to a standard storage locker in Queens by 5:00 PM.”

Flynn stared at the paper, his eyes scanning the legal seals and Mabel’s crisp, flawless signature at the bottom.

“She can't do this,” Flynn whispered, shaking his head in denial. “We’re married! This is our home! Where is she? Where is Mabel?!”

“Mrs. Vance is currently resting comfortably at St. Jude Memorial Hospital with her daughter, far away from your toxic presence,” Marcus replied coldly. “And I suggest you step away from the doorway, Dr. Vance, before I instruct building security to physically escort you off the premises.”

Before Flynn could retort, the elevator chimed again.

The doors slid open, and two commercial moving men stepped out carrying a large, heavy wardrobe box stamped with packing tape. Behind them walked Selena, who had taken a cab straight from the restaurant after realizing Flynn was sinking faster than a stone.

“Flynn! What is going on?” Selena demanded, her voice shrill and panicked as she marched down the hallway. “I just tried to check into our weekend suite at the Carlyle, and they said your corporate card was declined there, too! They canceled our reservation!”

Flynn turned to her, desperate, humiliated, and cornered. “Selena, just... just wait in the lobby—”

“Wait in the lobby?! In my condition?!” Selena screamed, her hands flying to her face. “Where are we going to sleep tonight, Flynn? Your penthouse is locked! Your cards are frozen! Are you broke?!”

Hearing the commotion, Marcus Vance raised an eyebrow, casually leaning against the doorframe. “If I may offer some professional advice, Miss Vale, I’d start looking for an extended-stay motel in New Jersey. Because as of this morning, Dr. Vance’s personal credit rating has been downgraded to junk status, and every line of credit he owns has been frozen by order of the federal bankruptcy and family court.”

Selena stared at Flynn, horror slowly dawning in her eyes. The illusion of the wealthy, untouchable corporate titan she had seduced had completely evaporated in less than six hours, leaving behind a naked, ruined man standing in a hallway with nothing to his name.

With a sharp gasp of disgust, Selena turned on her heel, marched back to the elevator, and slammed her finger against the down button, muttering curses under her breath as the doors closed, leaving Flynn entirely alone in the empty hallway.
