Chapter 5 - The Summit at the St. RegisThe truth set off a lightning-fast, high-stakes conflict across the East Coast high-society and corporate networks over the next forty-eight hours.

Victor Vance—having discovered that Dominic Moretti had officially adopted a six-year-old girl matching the genetic markers of his late brother's daughter—launched an emergency legal motion to claim mandatory guardianship over me, aiming to seize my sixty-percent voting equity before the court confirmed my identity.

The final confrontation was set for 7:00 PM at the Grand Ballroom of the St. Regis Hotel in downtown Manhattan—the venue for the annual East Coast Maritime Logistics Summit.

Three hundred prominent corporate leaders, politicians, supreme court judges, and syndicate bosses sat around white-linen tables set up along the grand room.

At the head table sat sixty-five-year-old Victor Vance, wearing a tailored charcoal suit, surrounded by six high-ranking corporate attorneys and twelve armed guards.

"Dominic Moretti has lost his mind!" Victor sneered loudly to the board members beside him. "He adopts a crippled orphan from a shelter and claims she owns thirty percent of Vance Maritime?! I am the sole trustee of this family!"

BOOM!

The heavy double mahogany doors at the rear of the ballroom were thrown open with a sharp, heavy force.

Walking down the central carpeted aisle, flanked by thirty broad-shouldered Moretti security operators led by Marco, was Dominic.

He wore an immaculate black tuxedo, his posture broad, tall, and sovereign, his storm-gray eyes holding a lethal, freezing fire that dropped the temperature in the room below zero.

And sitting beside his right side, in a sleek motorized ivory wheelchair, wearing an exquisite pale blue silk dress with a gold double-headed falcon pendant resting at my throat, her dark hair styled in soft curls, her hazel eyes holding zero fear, was me.

I held Dominic’s broad, calloused hand firmly in my small palm, my posture royal, my spine straight as a queen reclaiming her heritage.

Victor Vance dropped his wine glass.
