Chapter 7 - The Empire We Built TogetherThree months later.

The snow was falling in heavy, pristine flakes over the Westchester estate, wrapping the sprawling stone manor in a blanket of winter quiet. Inside the master nursery, the walls were painted a soft, soothing sage green, lit by the warm, golden glow of a bedside lamp.

I stood by the window, cradling a sleeping newborn baby girl wrapped in a cashmere blanket, watching the snowflakes drift past the glass.

Behind me, the door clicked open softly.

Heavy, familiar footsteps crossed the hardwood floor, and a pair of strong, comforting arms wrapped securely around my waist from behind. A warm chin rested gently on my shoulder.

"Is she finally asleep?" Ethan murmured, his voice deep and velvet-soft.

"Out like a light," I smiled, leaning back against his chest, feeling the steady, solid warmth of his body. "If you pace back and forth outside the nursery door one more time, you're going to wear a groove into the floorboards."

Ethan chuckled, pressing a tender kiss against my temple. "Can you blame me? Every time I look at her, I'm terrified I'm going to wake up and realize she's just a dream."

Life had changed drastically since that terrifying night in the Brooklyn warehouse. Viktor’s syndicate had been systematically dismantled within forty-eight hours of the attack—a surgical, merciless takedown that left the New York underworld in no doubt as to who still ruled the streets.

With his enemies neutralized and his family finally secure, Ethan had done something the old Ethan never would have dreamed of doing.

He stepped down as active head of syndicate operations, handing the daily reins over to Dante, and transitioned his massive financial empire entirely into legitimate global investments and philanthropic foundations.

"She has your eyes, you know," Ethan whispered, gently brushing a soft curl of dark hair away from our daughter’s tiny forehead.

"And your stubbornness," I added with a smile.

Ethan turned me gently in his arms so I was facing him. He looked different now—the hard, ruthless edge that used to define him had been replaced by a profound, radiant peace. The expensive black suits had been traded for comfortable cashmere sweaters, and his entire existence was anchored right here in this room.

"I signed the new holding company papers this morning," Ethan said quietly, his dark eyes locked onto mine with fierce devotion.

"And?"

"And fifty percent of everything I own—every asset, every property, every trust—is now legally transferred into a joint trust bearing your name and hers," he said softly. "No secret accounts. No corporate walls. No business without your signature."

I reached up, my hand resting gently against his warm cheek. "You didn't have to do that, Ethan."

"I had to do it ten years ago," he corrected, his voice thick with emotion. "I spent a decade building an empire out of stone and blood, forgetting that the only kingdom worth ruling was the one I shared with you."

He leaned down, pressing his lips softly against mine in a kiss that held no rush, no fear, and no shadows—only a promise of forever.

Outside the window, the snow continued to fall over Manhattan, but inside our home, the storm had finally passed. We didn't need mafia empires or untouchable wealth anymore.

We had each other, and we had our family. And that was an empire no one could ever take away.
