Chapter 6 - The Trial of the Century(Target: 2,000 words - Focus: The courtroom drama, Adrian and Marcus facing justice, Victoria's powerful testimony, and the final destruction of the Blackwell name.)

Two months later. The federal courthouse was packed to maximum capacity. The trial had captivated the entire nation.

Adrian and Marcus Blackwell sat at the defense table, both wearing orange prison jumpsuits. Adrian looked emaciated, his arrogance completely stripped away, replaced by the hollow stare of a man who knew his life was over. Vanessa had turned state's evidence a week prior, trading a full confession for a reduced sentence.

I sat on the witness stand, looking out at the courtroom. My mother sat in the gallery, weeping silently, finally looking at me with genuine remorse.

The defense attorney stood up, trying one last desperate attempt to discredit me. "Ms. Sterling, isn't it true that you stayed with my client for years voluntarily? You accepted his gifts, you planned a lavish wedding. Are we to believe you were a prisoner while living in a multi-million dollar penthouse?"

The courtroom held its breath. I looked directly at the jury, then turned my gaze to Adrian.

"When a man isolates you from your friends, monitors your every phone call, and threatens to ruin your family if you leave, you are not a resident—you are a hostage," I said, my voice ringing with absolute clarity and power. "I stayed because I knew that if I ran, he would destroy everything my father built. I stayed to gather the weapon that would finish him. I didn't plan a wedding to become his wife. I planned a wedding to make sure his judgment day would have the largest possible audience."

The jury looked at me with profound respect.

The prosecution then played the definitive evidence: the recording from the memory card. My father's panicked voice, the sound of tearing metal, and Adrian's cold voice on a phone line saying, "It's done. The Sterling estate is ours."

The verdict was delivered in less than two hours.

"On the counts of corporate fraud, grand theft, and money laundering: Guilty. On the counts of aggravated domestic assault: Guilty. On the count of first-degree conspiracy to commit murder: Guilty."

The judge slammed his gavel. "Adrian Blackwell and Marcus Blackwell, I sentence you both to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole."

As Adrian was led away in chains, he looked at me one last time. There was no rage left in him—only the terrifying realization that he had been completely erased by the woman he thought he owned.
