Chapter 5 - The Confrontation on the RoofThe freezing rain lashed against our faces as we stood stranded on the exposed rooftop. The wind whipped our clothes around us, carrying the distant wail of police sirens that dared not approach the Moretti estate.

Julian Vanguard stood under the harsh glare of an emergency floodlight, wearing an expensive cashmere overcoat that seemed entirely unaffected by the downpour. A thin, cruel smile played across his lips as he looked at Lorenzo, who stood protectively in front of me and Mia.
“End of the line, Moretti,” Julian called out over the roar of the wind, spreading his arms wide. “You should have stayed in Sicily. You should have stayed out of Manhattan real estate. And above all, you should never have thought you could hide a woman and child from me.”
“You talk too much, Julian,” Lorenzo replied coldly, his voice cutting through the wind with absolute chilling clarity. He didn't lower his pistol, keeping it aimed squarely at Julian’s chest.
“Am I talking too much?” Julian laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. He motioned to one of his mercenaries, who stepped forward holding a heavy encrypted laptop. “Because I think you’ll find my terms quite reasonable. Sign over the entire Hudson shipping docks and the Swiss bank accounts by midnight tonight, and maybe—just maybe—I’ll let your little girlfriend and your bastard daughter walk away from this rooftop breathing.”
My heart hammered against my ribs. I looked at Lorenzo, terrified that he would actually consider the trade—that he would sacrifice his entire empire to save us.
Instead, Lorenzo let out a slow, sharp laugh.
“You think you hold all the cards, Julian?” Lorenzo asked, his eyes narrowing into cold slits of steel.
“I have twenty men holding the lower floors of your house, Moretti. Your security is dead, your communications are jammed, and your chopper isn't going anywhere,” Julian sneered, stepping closer. “You have nothing.”
“You forgot one detail, Julian,” Lorenzo said smoothly.
“And what’s that?”
“You’re standing on my roof.”
Before Julian could process the warning, the sky above us suddenly erupted with the deafening roar of twin jet turbine engines.
From out of the low-hanging storm clouds, two heavily armored Moretti tactical helicopters dropped straight down out of the grey sky, their searchlights blindingly bright, flooding the rooftop with a wall of white-hot illumination. The gale-force downdraft from the rotors whipped rain and debris into a chaotic vortex, forcing Vanguard’s men to stagger backward, shielding their eyes.
“What the hell—shoot them down!” Julian screamed over the deafening noise.
The mercenaries raised their weapons, but they were too late.
A dozen Moretti elite operatives rappelled swiftly down ropes from the hovering choppers, landing with military precision all around Vanguard’s men. Before a single shot could be fired, the sound of multiple tasers snapping through the air and tactical boots slamming against concrete filled the roof.
In less than thirty seconds, Vanguard’s elite squad was disarmed, zip-tied, and forced face-down onto the wet rooftop.
Julian Vanguard stood entirely alone, his face draining of all color as a heavily armed Marcus grabbed him from behind, forcing him to his knees right at Lorenzo’s feet.
Lorenzo walked forward slowly, stepping over a fallen assault rifle. He stopped right in front of the kneeling, trembling Julian Vanguard.
“You wanted my empire, Julian?” Lorenzo asked softly, leaning down so his voice was barely audible over the roaring helicopter engines above. “You can have it.”
May you like
Lorenzo brought the heavy butt of his pistol crashing down across Julian’s jaw with bone-crunching force.
Julian crumpled instantly onto the concrete, unconscious and bleeding.
