Chapter 3 - The Purge at the Freight TerminalAt 9:00 AM the following morning, the fifty-story corporate headquarters of Vale Logistics & Commercial Freight in downtown Denver was in a state of historic upheaval.

Inside the glass-walled executive boardroom on the top floor, Owen Pierce sat at the head of a thirty-foot mahogany conference table, flanked by four high-priced defense attorneys and six executive vice presidents.
"Sign the asset transfer immediately!" Owen demanded into his desk phone, his face red, sweat shining on his forehead. "I don't care about the hold! Wire the remaining twelve million to Zurich before the board convenes!"
BOOM!
The heavy double glass doors of the boardroom were thrown open with a violent, hydraulic impact!
Walking down the central carpeted aisle, flanked by Marcus Vance, six armed marshals, and two federal financial investigators, was Senior Legal Strategist Bridget Colton.
Bridget wore an immaculate charcoal tailored suit, her eyes holding sharp, surgical satisfaction as she tossed a heavy stack of red-sealed legal binders flat onto the table before Owen.
"The wire transfer is dead, Mr. Pierce," Bridget Colton announced flatly, her voice echoing cleanly across the silent room. "As is your career."
Owen stood up, his chair scraping violently against the floorboards. "THIS IS AN ILLEGAL CORPORATE SEIZURE! I AM CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER OF THIS COMPANY!"
"You were Chief Financial Officer," Bridget corrected coldly, tapping the red-sealed binders. "Until twelve hours ago, when forensic audits proved you embezzled forty-two million dollars and orchestrated the premeditated murder of junior accountant Daniel Carter."
Owen dropped back into his leather chair, his jaw sagging open, the color draining completely from his face.
Before he could speak, the double glass doors opened again.
Sebastian Vale walked into the boardroom.
He wore a dark bespoke charcoal suit, his dark hair neatly cut, his broad frame radiating an untouchable, sovereign authority that dropped the room's temperature to zero.
Walking right beside him, holding his hand, was three-year-old Nori, wearing a sweet yellow dress and clean white shoes, holding her gray rabbit. Behind them walked Clara Carter, wearing a sharp navy silk suit, her head held high, her eyes burning with quiet, triumphant grace.
Owen looked up at Sebastian, his eyes filling with an absolute, terrifying realization of his complete downfall.
"Sebastian..." Owen stammered, his voice cracking into a high, pathetic thread. "You... you can't do this... I served your family for twenty years..."
"You didn't serve my family, Owen," Sebastian answered, looking down at him with absolute, weightless disgust. "You stole from me. You killed an honest man. And you left his daughter to grow up without a father."
Lead Marshal Hayes stepped forward, locking heavy steel handcuffs around Owen Pierce's wrists behind his back.
"Owen Pierce," Marshal Hayes declared coldly. "You are under arrest for First-Degree Premeditated Murder, Interstate Wire Fraud, Forgery, and Embezzlement."

At the exact same moment, police cruisers across Denver were arresting Owen’s associates, dirty mechanics, and the corrupt precinct officers who had covered up Daniel Carter's crash three years earlier.
Owen thrashed and wept pathetic, groveling tears as marshals dragged him out of the boardroom in total, public disgrace, while television news cameras captured his complete downfall for the morning news.
