Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary in BrooklynAt 1:30 AM, inside a cozy, sunlit three-bedroom brownstone in Park Slope, Brooklyn, a quiet, peaceful warmth filled the living room.

Soft nightlights cast gentle golden glows across the hardwood floors, where wooden toy trains, picture books, and paper airplanes were neatly stacked into canvas bins.
In the small rear bedroom, three five-year-old boys—Leo, Julian, and tiny Ethan—lay tucked beneath warm fleece blankets in their custom triple-bunk beds, sleeping soundly, their soft, rhythmic breathing filling the room.
Claire sat at the small wooden dining table in the kitchen, wearing a comfortable oversized sweater, a warm mug of chamomile tea held tightly between her trembling hands.
Beside her stood her oldest friend and attorney, Madison Parker.
"The public fallout from the gala is everywhere, Claire," Madison reported softly, setting a tablet flat onto the table. "The media is calling it the shock of the decade. Billionaire mobster Gabriel Cross discovered his secret triplet heirs in the middle of a charity fundraiser."
Claire let out a long, shuddering sigh, rubbing her temples. "I didn't want him to see them, Madison. I spent five years protecting Leo, Julian, and Ethan from his world. I raised them on my salary as a freelance editor. They are happy, safe, and innocent. If Gabriel steps into their lives with his bodyguards, his guns, and his syndicate wars... it will destroy them."
"You can't hide them anymore, Claire," Madison said gently, taking her hand. "Gabriel Cross isn't just an ex-husband anymore. He's a man who just discovered he has three sons. He will tear New York apart to reach this front door."
KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.
Three slow, deliberate, heavy knocks sounded against the solid oak front door of the brownstone.
Claire’s heart dropped into her stomach. She stood up instantly, stepping in front of the hallway leading to her children's bedroom.
Madison reached for her phone to call security, but Claire raised her hand, stopping her. "No. Stay with the boys, Madison."
Claire walked down the dimly lit hallway, her pulse hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird. She unlocked the heavy deadbolt, pulling the heavy oak door open six inches.
Standing on the rain-slicked welcome mat, soaked in the cold midnight rain, wearing a tailored charcoal suit with zero coat and zero bodyguards, was Gabriel Cross.
His dark hair was plastered against his forehead, his storm-gray eyes bloodshot, hollowed out by a profound, agonizing grief that made him look completely stripped of his multi-billion-dollar power.

He didn't try to push the door open. He didn't raise his voice. He stood in the rain, looking at her through the gap with a quiet, groveling desperation that shattered every defense she had built over five years.
"Claire..." Gabriel whispered rasply. His voice broke on her name. "Please... just let me look at you."
